AGN Reacts to Stanley Ontop Amadi’s Arrest Over Alleged Coup Plot Against Tinubu

…..Guild denies involvement in ‘baseless’ overthrow scheme

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has reacted to the arrest of one of its members, Stanley Ontop Amadi, over his alleged role in a plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Amadi, former chairperson of the AGN Enugu State chapter, is among several civilians reportedly detained by security agencies in connection with the suspected coup plot.

The AGN, in a statement, described the allegations against Amadi as “baseless and malicious,” insisting that the actor had no involvement in any subversive activities.

Reports of a possible coup first emerged in October 2024, shortly after the Federal Government cancelled the military parade marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) had then dismissed any connection between the parade cancellation and a coup plot, adding that recent arrests of some military officers were unrelated to such claims.
Security sources, however, linked the latest detentions to ongoing investigations into alleged plots against the Tinubu-led government, though details remain scanty.

The AGN called for Amadi’s immediate release, urging authorities to conduct thorough probes free from political interference.

As at press time, neither the police nor the Department of State Services (DSS) had issued an official statement on the matter.
