From Lone Voice to Institutional Justice: INEC Bows to court Order, Uploads Nenadi Usman-Led Labour Party NWC
….INEC complies after protracted legal battle

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally recognised the Senator Nenadi Esther Usman-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party, uploading its members, including Senator Darlington Nwokocha, onto its official website.

The move, which followed a series of court rulings, marks a triumph for the rule of law and judicial authority in Nigeria’s democracy, according to Oluchi Oparah, former National Treasurer of the Labour Party.
In a statement issued Friday, Oparah commended INEC for “standing by the rule of law and doing what is right,” describing the electoral body’s action as a demonstration of respect for the courts.”
This action sends a strong and reassuring message that the pronouncements of our courts are still respected by public institutions, and that Nigeria’s judiciary must be obeyed,” Oparah stated.
She noted that the development affirms the capacity of democratic institutions for self-correction, adding, “The rule of law is alive and cannot be wished away.”Oparah described the journey as one she began in 2024, often as “a lone voice,” which has now reached a “defining conclusion.”She urged the Nenadi-led NWC to “chart a clear, inclusive, and strategic path forward” to reposition the Labour Party as “a credible, organised, and people-centred political platform, fully prepared for the 2027 general elections.”
The former treasurer called for candidates who can “genuinely represent the hopes and aspirations of Nigerians,” while reflecting on the struggle: “Today is a reminder that persistence matters, truth endures, and justice though delayed can still prevail.”Oparah hinted at the personal cost, saying, ”
The psychological and emotional toll this struggle took on my family and me is a story for another day, but above all, I give God all the glory for victory at last.”She signed off with the Labour Party slogan: “Labour Party! Forward Ever!! Backward Never!!!”
The recognition by INEC comes after prolonged litigation over the party’s leadership, underscoring ongoing tensions within the opposition platform ahead of the 2027 polls.
