Nasarawa State Commissioner for Education, John W. Mamman, has promised a comprehensive upgrade of public school facilities across the state under the AGILE Project to enhance learning conditions.
Mamman gave the assurance during an inspection tour of selected schools in Akwanga and Keffi Local Government Areas.
He was accompanied by a team from the AGILE Project and Chairman of Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Dr. Kasim Mohammed Kasim.
The tour covered the Sports Academy, Akwanga; Akwanga South Central Primary School; Kofar Hausa Primary School, Keffi; Shittu Alao Barracks Primary School (Army Barracks), Keffi; Government Secondary School, Army Barracks, Keffi; and Baptist Primary School, among others.
Speaking during the tour, Mamman said the visit aimed to assess facilities, evaluate unfinished projects and identify areas needing urgent intervention.
“We are looking at how education can be made easy and convenient for our students to ensure smooth assimilation.
We want schools to have necessary facilities for comfortable learning because education is the bedrock of every society,” he stated.
The commissioner prioritised fencing schools in areas prone to security threats and land encroachment, stressing the need to safeguard school property.
“We plead with community leaders, principals and heads of schools to cooperate. We want to solve land encroachment by fencing where necessary. We will not be happy to see school authorities involved in such issues,” he added.
Mamman commended Governor Abdullahi A. Sule for sponsoring the intervention, describing his commitment to education as “mind-blowing” and “outrageously well” across sectors.
He disclosed that pressing issues, especially at schools in Keffi Army Barracks, were addressed during the “timely and productive” visit.
Also speaking, NSUBEB Chairman, Dr. Kasim Mohammed Kasim, said the inspection would strengthen collaboration between AGILE Project and SUBEB for quality basic education.“The partnership will fast-track interventions, improve infrastructure and enhance teaching and learning standards in public schools,” he added.
