Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) Delivers Final Sermon Amid Final Illness
Three days before his passing (peace be upon him), the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) experienced intensifying pain while at the home of Umm al-Mu’minin Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her).
He requested his wives be gathered and sought their permission to receive care at Aisha’s house during his illness.
They graciously consented. Unable to stand unaided, Ali ibn Abi Talib and al-Fadl ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) supported and carried him to Aisha’s residence, the first time Companions witnessed him in such frailty.
Anxiety gripped the Ummah as crowds filled the Prophet’s Mosque, murmuring, “What has befallen the Messenger of Allah?” His fever surged, and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) later recounted wiping his face with his pure hand, cooler than hers, amid his severe suffering.
He uttered: “There is no god but Allah. Death has its agonies.”Revived by water poured over him seven times, he was borne to the mosque and ascended the pulpit for his final sermon.
Final Words of Guidance: Addressing the fearful gathering, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “O people, my meeting with you is not in this world, but at the Hawd (the Basin).
By Allah, I see it now.”He warned: “I fear not poverty for you, but the world opening to you, leading to rivalry and destruction as with those before.
“Emphasizing core duties, he urged: “Allah, Allah concerning prayer… Fear Allah regarding women; treat them well… Choose what is with Allah over the world.”
Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) wept, offering his life in ransom. Defending him, the Prophet (peace be upon him) declared Abu Bakr’s unparalleled favor and ordered all mosque doors closed except his, a lasting honor.
He prayed for the Ummah’s protection, firmness, and victory, concluding with salutations upon his nation before returning home.
Tender Final Moments, Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr brought a siwak; Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) softened it in her mouth and placed it for him, her saliva the last to touch his blessed form, a divine favor she cherished.
Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) entered, weeping at his immobility. He whispered of his imminent passing, then reunion as the first of his family, turning tears to a smile.
Resting on Aisha’s chest, he raised his hand: “With the Highest Companion.” Jibril (peace be upon him) announced the Angel of Death’s respectful request.

Granted entry, the Angel offered choice: world or Lord. “With the Highest Companion,” he affirmed.
The pure soul departed to Allah’s pleasure. Aisha announced his passing; the mosque resounded with grief.
O Allah, send blessings and peace upon Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
