Sallah: Nasarawa Speaker Doles Out N30m in Rice, Cash to Constituents, Announces N30m Scholarship Scheme
The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, Ph.D., has demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the welfare of his constituents by distributing 1,000 bags of rice and over N10 million in cash, bringing the total value of the Sallah gesture to N30 million, while also announcing plans to launch a N30 million scholarship scheme for less privileged students in the Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency.
The distribution took place today at the Speaker’s residence in Garaku, headquarters of Kokona Local Government Area, where hundreds of beneficiaries gathered to receive the palliatives in the festive spirit of Eid-el-Fitr.
Dr. Jatau, representing Kokona West Constituency, explained that this act of benevolence aligns with his ongoing efforts to elevate the living standards of his people before, during, and after the Sallah celebrations. Recalling a similar gesture during last year’s Christmas where he expended over N30 million on rice and cash distributions, he emphasized, “And today, I am also distributing 1,000 bags of rice and over N10 million cash, totalling N30 million in the spirit of Sallah celebration.
This is to improve on the standard of living of our people.” He urged recipients not to sell the rice but to use it for its intended purpose, while reassuring those yet to benefit to exercise patience, assuring them of brighter days ahead.
Beyond the immediate palliatives, the Speaker called on his constituents to rally behind Governor Abdullahi Sule for continued success in delivering dividends of democracy to Nasarawa State, and to extend similar support to the governorship aspirant the governor will anoint as his successor ahead of the 2027 elections.
He seized the occasion to congratulate the newly elected executive members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the state, local government, and ward levels following their recent congresses, while commending party stakeholders for their peaceful conduct throughout the process.
In a further boost to education, Dr. Jatau revealed that he has set aside N30 million for a scholarship programme targeting indigent students from the Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency, aimed at alleviating the financial burden of school fees on parents and guardians.
The Speaker also used the platform to preach unity, urging the people of Kokona LGA to shun religious and ethnic politics while embracing peace and togetherness regardless of affiliations.
Earlier, Hon. Terry Bado, APC Chairman of Kokona LGA, had praised Dr. Jatau for his consistent support to the constituency through such palliative distributions and other interventions, calling on residents to pray for and back the Speaker’s success in 2027.
The chairman equally expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abdullahi Sule for their developmental strides across the nation and state, respectively.
