Nasarawa APC Stakeholders Adopt Direct Primary for 2027 Guber Race, Zone Next Governor to Nasarawa West, Declares Gov Sule
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has revealed that stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state have unanimously adopted direct primary elections for the 2027 governorship and other elective positions, emphasizing that in the interest of fairness, equity, and political brotherhood, it is now the turn of Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone to produce the next governor.
The announcement came on Sunday during a press briefing by the governor, who had just concluded a marathon meeting with key party figures, including governorship aspirants, National Assembly members, the Deputy Governor, the state’s minister, and chairmen of federal government agencies and parastatals from Nasarawa.
Sule described the gathering as a vital platform where all voices were heard freely, allowing stakeholders to chart a path for the primary season that would keep the APC united, strong, and poised for victory in the 2027 general elections.
Highlighting the calibre of the aspirants, many of whom have occupied top national positions and some still do, the governor stressed the need to treat them with utmost respect while reminding them of the essence of collective effort to successfully navigate the primaries.
On the mode of primary, Sule disclosed that the majority at the meeting strongly endorsed direct primaries, aligning perfectly with the position of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has consistently championed this approach as it empowers every party member to have a direct say in selecting the flag bearer.

He gave a firm assurance that the entire process would be open, transparent, and strictly compliant with the APC constitution and the Electoral Act, thereby eliminating any grounds for post-primary grievances or discord.
Appealing to all aspirants to embrace the outcome in good faith, Governor Sule warned that any who might choose to defect after a loss in such a democratic exercise would simply be revealing an inability to accept defeat gracefully.
“Nobody, nobody whatsoever will have any excuse to leave the party, because we are going to have a very transparent, very democratic process in line with the constitution of the party and the Electoral Act. So the person who leaves after losing is leaving because he does not know how to lose,” he declared emphatically.

Turning to the sensitive issue of senatorial zoning for the governorship, the governor noted that the matter was exhaustively discussed, with him clearly stating his stance that while the term “zoning” has often been loosely applied, the real guiding principle here is equity and brotherhood among Nasarawa’s three senatorial districts.
Recalling the political history, Sule pointed out that Nasarawa South Senatorial Zone, encompassing the Lafia axis, had produced governors for 12 consecutive years, while Nasarawa North, covering the Akwanga area, currently holds the seat under his administration.
In the spirit of fairness, he insisted it is now overdue for Nasarawa West, the Keffi axis, which has been without a governor for over 20 years. “I keep insisting, and I stand by that, in line with the spirit of brotherhood, let us take it to Keffi Zone, which has not produced a governor for twenty years,” he affirmed.
The governor expressed profound gratitude to all participants for their attendance and cooperative spirit, expressing optimism that the APC in Nasarawa State would emerge from the primaries more united and battle-ready to clinch victory in 2027.
