Oborevwori Assures Army: Delta Will Meet Recruitment Quota

…Says government engaging stakeholders to boost enlistment

Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured the Nigerian Army of the state’s readiness to fully utilise its allocated quota in the ongoing 91 Regular Recruits Intake (RRI), which commenced on March 30.

The governor gave the assurance on Thursday while receiving a recruitment sensitisation team from Army Headquarters in Asaba, led by Moses Ikoba. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to mobilising eligible youths to participate in the exercise.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Emu, Oborevwori disclosed that the state had constituted a dedicated committee to sensitise youths on the benefits and opportunities available in the military, paramilitary, and other security agencies.

He further noted that the government is actively engaging traditional rulers, local government council chairmen, and youth groups to deepen awareness and encourage enlistment. According to him, lessons from previous recruitment exercises are being applied to address existing gaps and improve participation.

The governor also directed the State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment, alongside the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, to intensify media campaigns and grassroots sensitisation across the state’s 25 local government areas.

He expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, for deploying the sensitisation team to Delta, noting that the initiative would enhance participation in the recruitment process.

Earlier, Brigadier General Ikoba explained that the delegation’s visit was aimed at highlighting the importance of the recruitment exercise and securing the state government’s support in meeting its quota.

He revealed that the Chief of Army Staff had directed more aggressive and result-oriented sensitisation strategies nationwide to boost enlistment figures.

Ikoba urged eligible youths in the state to apply for the 91 RRI online, free of charge, stressing that the minimum entry requirement is four credit passes. He also highlighted opportunities for recruits to further their education to higher levels while serving in the Army.

The army officer commended Governor Oborevwori for his administration’s commitment to peace and security, noting that such efforts align with broader development objectives.

The visit featured the presentation of a souvenir to the governor in recognition of his contributions to peacebuilding and national security.

Following the meeting, the Army team proceeded to Okpanam and Igbuzor communities, where they paid courtesy visits to traditional rulers and engaged local youths on the benefits of joining the Nigerian Army.

Among those present at the meeting were the Director-General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr (Barr.) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe; the Committee Secretary and Secretary to the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, Chief Alfred Origbo; and the Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Political and Security Services (DPSS), Mr Theophilus Chuks Aguonye.

Others included the State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Milton Sagboje Odiri; the Permanent Secretary, SSG’s Office, Mr Tony Abua; and Executive Assistants to the Governor, Mr Josy Honnah and Mr J.C. Morka, among other senior government officials.
