Provost COE Akwanga Attends NSUK Convocation, Engages Renowned Scholar Lumumba

The Provost of the College of Education, Akwanga, Nasarawa State, Dr. Barau Nuhu Barnabas Best, on Friday attended the 8th Combined Convocation and Silver Jubilee celebrations of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, marking the institution’s 25th anniversary.

The event, held at the TETFund Multipurpose Hall, drew prominent figures from academia, government, and beyond, and featured high-level lectures delivered by distinguished scholars and thought leaders.

An anniversary lecture was presented by Umar Buba Bindir on the theme, “From Knowledge to Wealth Creation: Pathway for Revitalising Nigeria’s Tertiary Education System by Alumni Associations.”

He underscored the importance of alumni networks in driving innovation, strengthening institutions, and fostering sustainable development in higher education.

A second keynote address was delivered by renowned African intellectual, Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, popularly known as PLO Lumumba.

Speaking on “Education Without Borders: Internationalisation of African Universities Education System – Prospects and Challenges,” he called for the adoption of global best practices, increased academic collaboration, and the promotion of cross-border educational opportunities to enhance competitiveness among African universities.

Speaking after the event, Dr. Best described his participation as both enlightening and impactful. He commended the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi A. Sule, for his commitment to advancing education and supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening tertiary institutions.

According to the Provost, the convocation and anniversary celebrations reflect the steady progress being made in the education sector in the state.

He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering institutional growth and academic excellence at the College of Education, Akwanga.

Dr. Best further noted that ongoing reforms and strategic engagements are positioning the institution for transformation, adding that the college is making steady progress through purposeful leadership and innovation.
