Rt. Hon Austin Okezie Meregini, the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, has clarified that there is no division among members of the house as they remain one party.
The Deputy speaker also stated that the lawmakers are united to ensure the State Governor, Alex Otti receive their full supports and cooperation so as to enable him implement his administration’s visionary agenda for the rebuilding of Abia economy and the development of critical infrastructures in many parts of the state.
He spoke during the recent thanksgiving service organized by the member representing Isiuakwato state constituency, Hon Lucky Nweke Johnson over his recent landslide victory at the just-concluded March 18th, 2023 conducted election in Abia by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Recall that the leader of the PDP caucus of the Abia State House of Assembly, Solomon Akpulonu and his colleagues in the Peoples Democratic Party, had last week, staged a walkout from the Assembly complex in protest of the alleged refusal of the Assembly leadership to allow the PDP to nominate and produce majority positions.
This came barely after some weeks the house of assembly elected member Hon Emmanuel Emeruwa, member representing Aba south state constituency as the Speaker, while Hon Austin Okezie Meregini was elected as Deputy Speaker amidst protests.
They are members of the ruling Labour Party (LP) in the state, whereas the opposition Peoples Democractic Party (PDP) enjoys the majority in the Assembly.
While speaking earlier, Meregini clarified that the recent scenario that played out in the state legislative chamber was a normal disagreement commonly associated to human nature, wherein one disagree and later agree between each other and move as a force.

The State Deputy Speaker who represents Umuahia east constituency in the newly-inaugurated 8th Abia House of Assembly, reassured that the present leadership of the house will not rest on its oars in discharging her constitutional duties, describing the present house members as a collection of intelligent and responsible people whose hearts are occupied to move the state forward.
He promised that house members and Governor Alex Otti would always interface and synergized in ensuring impactful laws are made to improve on the socio-economic and infrastructural deficits in Abia state.
