Kuje Council Chairman’s Wife Empowers Women With N5m On Skills Acquisition

The wife of the Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hajiya Salamatu Abdullahi Sulaiman Sabo, on Wednesday, empowered 250 women and Youth across the 10 political ward of the Council with N20, 000 each amounting to N5 million as start-up grant to enable them become self-reliant.

Sabo, while speaking at the end of the three days training programme at June town hall, said that the youth and women, participated in the skills/acquisition training in the areas of production of hand sanitizer, soap, perfume, make up, and other various skills, are expected to set up their own businesses and to become employers of labour.

She said she chose to personally empowered the youth and women because they are the backbone of every society, saying such move will also encourage them to become employers of labour.

The chairmans wife advised the beneficiaries to utilize the grant given to engage in business of their choice, disclosing that the second phase of the empowerments programme will soon commence in distances time.

“Because, the council chairman Hon Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo made a commitment to personally support the loudable programme , with a view to making the youth and women self reliance,” she said.

She said she strongly believed that it was necessary for the beneficiaries to understand that it was not only to share money, but to make them employers of labour.

Speaking in a similarly vein, the Chairmen of Bwari and Kwali Area Councils, who both attended the closing ceremony, both used the opportunity to reiterate the resolve of their administration’s to prioritize empowerment of women and youth in order to make them active players in the economic development of their various area councils.

According to the chairmen, empowering the women was also another way of cushioning the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the people of Kuje area council, thereby urging the beneficiaries to make good use of the grant at their disposal.

However, some of the beneficiaries have already began to demonstrate their learnt skills as they displayed some of their products for all to see.

They also commended the facilitator for the training and for collaborating with the first lady in impacting basic skills for empowerment of women and youth of the Council, with a view to eradicating poverty, creating wealth and employment generation for the socio-economic development.

Earlier, the state chairman Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the FCT, Sunday Zaka, while highlighting some of the achievements recorded under the PDP led administration in Kuje Alarea council, commended the chairman’s wife for her support and commitment towards the welfare of women and youth in the area.

Global Times Nigeria report that highlight of the event was the official unveiling of the first lady:s Non governmental organisation (NGO) by the wife of the FCT senator, Mrs Hauwa Philip Tanimu Aduda.
