World Sickle Cell Day: Abia First Lady, Mrs Otti reiterate Gov’t commitment for sickle cell patients
In view of the 2024 World Sickle Cell Day with the theme “Hope Through Progress: Advancing Sickle Cell Care Globally,” the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for sickle cell patients in the state.
Mrs. Otti emphasized that the challenges faced by sickle cell warriors cannot be overstated. She called on educational institutions, workplaces, and communities to offer special considerations for individuals with sickle cell disease. This includes flexible schedules, understanding of their medical needs, and fostering supportive environments that accommodate their unique challenges.
She also urged Abians from all walks of life to rise to the challenge of the disease and help curtail it by checking their genotypes before entering marriage and romantic relationships. She assured of the government’s commitment to providing support through healthcare initiatives, awareness campaigns, and policies designed to ease their burden.
The Wife of the Governor prayed for strength, courage, and resilience for sickle cell patients and assured them of her love.
