Edo 2024: Asue/Ogie supporters locks down Benin City

In a rare demonstration of love and support, residents and none-residents of Benin City trooped out in their thousands to the ancient city of Benin, the Edo State capital, precisely the King’s Square, to register their support for the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Edo State September 21 election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie Esq.
Global Times Nigeria gathered that the elated, cheerful and energetic supporters clouded with attires of different colours, displaying placards with different inscriptions such as, “Asue Ighodalo remains our candidate,” “Dem Go Do am,” “Asue has capacity, competence, character and compassion,” “We Need a competent governor, “Prosperity For Edo”, “Edo is for Asue Ighodalo, PDP,”
Speaking at the rally where a one minute silence was observed in honour of those who lost their lives in the Jettu Market incident, the coordinator, Edo Voter’s Assemble, Comrade Austin Osakue, declared that Dr. Asue Ighodalo remained the authentic candidate of the PDP and will be elected as governor of the state come 21st September 2024.
He noted that party politics is a serious business far greater than social media scam, fraudulent or back door activities; and urged everyone to disregard the rumour making the rounds concerning any court issue.
He said Edo State is a PDP stronghold and urged the people to vote massively for Dr. Asue Ighodalo, PDP with the umbrella as the symbol.
Addressing the mammoth crowd, Dr. Asue Ighodalo noted that Edo is blessed and should not be allowed to go into the hands of those who don’t mean well for the state. He said Edo State will continue on the path of progress and prosperity under his watch as governor of the state.
The governorship hopeful appreciated the people of the state for the massive turnout and bold statement, and appealed to them to be firm in their resolve and not only vote for him but also protect their votes.
On his part, the PDP Governorship Campaign Council Director General, Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, appreciated the people for coming out en-mass to show their love and support for the PDP, its governorship candidate and his running mate, Bar. Osarodion Ogie, stressing that Asue Ighodalo would do well for the state.
He advised the people not to fall victim to sweet-talking tricksters, who will promise things they will never deliver.
He added that with his impressive track record, Dr. Ighodalo will definitely further peace and prosperity in the state.
The high point of the event was a road match round the Benin City center square through Airport Road to the state party secretariat in solidarity and support for the party and its candidate.
