Hon. Hon. Isimbabi stated this during a press briefing in Lafia, Monday, following his defection from NNPP to APC, where he presented the committee’s report.

The Toto/Gadabuke representative thanked the committee for executing its duties impartially, without fear or favour, and in line with constitutional guidelines on defection.

According to him, the committee’s report was submitted on Saturday, the 21st of this month.

The committee’s report states, ‘Our finding and submission is that a division justifying defection should be one that renders the political party unable to function or directly affects the individual concerned, striking at the root of their membership.’

“We relied on the cases of division at the National level of the NNPP as listed by the Hon. Member if carefully considered.”

“We hold the opinion that the Hon. Member has sufficiently proven a division in NNPP at the national level, which justifies his decision to defect.”

“The report from the committee recommended that no action be taken against the Hon. Member.”

“Hon. Isimbabi revealed that he officially stepped down from NNPP in August 2024, having consulted with stakeholders and his constituency.”

“On August 21, 2024, I submitted my resignation letter from my former party, NNPP.”

“Following a week’s deliberation, I formally tendered my resignation on the House floor, whereupon the House Leader, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, read my resignation letter aloud during the proceedings.”

“He cited the division within NNPP at the national level, specifically highlighting the existence of two rival leaderships with distinct logos, as well as ongoing litigation, as the reasons for his resignation from the party.”

He disclosed that NNPP constituted a five-person committee to probe his decision to leave the party and join APC.

“As of 31st August, 2024, the State Executive Council constituted a five-man committee to probe the reasons behind my exit from NNPP.”

” The committee, in its wisdom, granted me an audience, allowing me to articulate my reasons for departing NNPP, particularly emphasizing the party’s internal divisions at the national level and the multiple court cases pending resolution.”

“I defected to serve my people’s interests and bring development to my constituency”

“I defected to benefit my people, driven by their widespread appeal, since politics is local.”

Hon. Isimbabi revealed that he followed due process, paying all NNPP dues, and appreciated NNPP for providing the platform to contest and win the 2023 House election.

The lawmaker pledged to add value and positively impact APC, his constituency, and the state’s development.
