…Speaker pledges to boost legislation, governance for state’s swift growth
Tanzania’s Arusha city is hosting the 53rd Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, CPA, conference for Africa.
Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, is leading a delegation of state legislators to a conference in Tanzania, scheduled to take place from September 29, 2024, to October 7, 2024.
In a telephone interview, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, Speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, and leader of the state’s legislative delegation to a conference in Tanzania, restated his resolve to steer the 7th Assembly towards achieving worldwide benchmarks in legislative operations, contributing to improved governance nationwide.
Speaker Jatau announced that Nasarawa State lawmakers are positioned to harness the full potential of the international conference, applying the resultant expertise to fortify legislative processes, governance, and swift socio-economic development.
Governor Abdullahi Sule’s approval of the foreign trip was lauded, highlighting their administration’s commitment to strengthening intergovernmental cooperation for peace and rapid development in the state.
” First and foremost, I want to appreciate His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule for approving this workshop.
“As this conference will go a long way in enhancing legislative business and good governance in the State.
“I want to assure the people of the State of the 7th assembly under my watch of continuous good working relationship and effective synergy with other arms of government for the overall development of the State” he said.
The Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency Dr. Philip Isdor Mpango, inaugurated the CPA conference, challenging attendees to exhibit a steadfast commitment to acquiring expertise in globally accepted legislative and governance standards, essential for sustaining democratic principles, ensuring effective governance, and driving socio-economic development.
According to him, the conference sought to achieve multiple goals, including the promotion of peace, unity, democratic principles, effective governance, and stability within all member states.
The CPA conference had as it theme “Africa Parliaments at the Forefront of Addressing Existential Global Challenges: Food Insecurity, Climate Change and Youth Unemployment”
He emphasized the necessity of tackling these global challenges through collaborative efforts involving all relevant parties.
He stressed the importance of African Parliaments positioning themselves to lead the charge through effective legislation and rigorous oversight.
