Okun Development Association launches website and Job Centre

The Okun Development Association (ODA) of Kogi West Senatorial District officially launched its website and the “Okun Job Centre” on April 16, 2025, in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The ODA leadership says the initiative aims to foster unity, development, and youth empowerment in the Okun region.

The website serves as an official platform to connect Okun sons and daughters worldwide, while the job centre is designed to create employment opportunities and support economic empowerment for youths in the area

The Okuns are the Yoruba speaking people in Kogi state renown for aggressive quest for education, launched the facility to foster unity and development in their land.

President General of ODA, Ambassador Akenson Rotimi, in his address during the launching in Lokoja over the weekend, said the website (www.okundevelopmentassociation.org.ng) was created to foster unity among Okun sons and daughters worldwide.

He explained that the Okun Job Centre, which is embedded in the ODA website, would create job opportunities for the teaming youths , address the challenges of unemployment and insecurity in Okun land.a

The President General noted that the association had also in March 28 this year convened a security summit aimed to evolve and implement a comprehensive security plan for the area.

Ambassador Rotimi, who recognized that unemployment is one of the issues traced to insecurity that is so pervasive in the society, disclosed that the job centre is crested to help the teaming unemployed youths as well provide job opportunities for skilled and unskilled labour, artisans among others.

Also in his remark on the Website concept, Dr Ayo Moses, the National Social Secretary of ODA, described the website as a dynamic platform that would be frequently updated, and accessible by all Okun sons and daughters across the globe.

‘ The job Centre will be a platform where authentic and verifiable job opportunities across the globe would be uploaded and accessible by our teaming youths who are both professional and unprofessional job seekers,” Dr Moses stated.

He explained that the job centre would also be a platform for youth empowerment for skills acquisition to help them to be self reliant.

While emphasizing the benefits of the projects to Okun sons and daughters such as the opportunity to access the contacts and pictures of both past and present Executives of ODA, however intimated the members of the organization on the Payment portal where all Okun sons and daughters could easily make payment of the annual dues of N5000, donations and other financial commitments anywhere they are around the world.

On his part, Special Adviser to the Governor on Youths and Students matters, Oladele John-Nihi, commended the ODA leadership for the initiative saying it would go a long way in assisting the teaming youths to get employed and be self reliant.

John-Nihi reaffimed the commitment of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration to supporting the development of Okun nation through a robust partnership with ODA.

The Special Adviser, who is also the Convener of OYA Movement promised effective collaboration with ODA to achieving the goals and objectives of the website and the job centre.

He called for proper reorientation among the youths in acquiring the right skills, and urged them to study courses that are relevant in the fast growing world of technology.
