Governor of Delta State, Dr (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, has appealed to all mentally, medically, and physically fit youths in the state to apply for the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment, specifically the 89th Regular recruits intake and the Direct Short Service Commission (SSC/DSSC) Course 48/2025.

The recruitment targets eligible male and female young graduates aged between 23 and 27 by January 2025, holding at least a second class lower division degree in Arts, Sciences, or Humanities from accredited institutions. Applicants must be Nigerian citizens without any criminal records and must be recommended by two recognized referees from their state of origin.

The recruitment aligns with Governor Oborevwori’s job and wealth creation initiatives under his MORE agenda. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply online for free via the Nigerian Army recruitment portal before the deadline, 15th September 2024.

The Governor made the appeal through the State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary services, chaired by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, Barrister ThankGod Harry Trakiriowei, on Tuesday at Oniocha-South and Warri South West Local Government Areas sensitization for youth enrolment in the ongoing 89th Regular recruits intake of the Nigerian Army.

The Governor disclosed that the closing date for applicants of Delta State origin has been extended from 17th to 24rh May, 2025 due to glitches experienced online, while listing some of the benefits of serving in the Military to include; juicy salary, opportunity to further education to any level at the expense of the federal government, and that service in the military and paramilitary is pensionable, prestigious and fulfilling.

He disclosed that the Army has reviewed the entry qualification downward from 4 credit passes at two sitting to 4 passes only, including English language for all applicants, Trades and Non-Trades men and women in the ongoing Nigerian Army 89th Regular recruits intake, making it very attractive for youths to get enlisted.

Governor Oborevwori assured that the state government will provide buses at strategic locations across the three senatorial districts to convey shortlisted applicants to and from Asaba for the screening exercise scheduled to take place from June 2-16, 2025, while urging local government Chairmen, heads of faith based organisations and traditional rulers to encourage and assist their constituents, members and subjects to apply for recruitment during the entire exercise.

In the same vein, the Council Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Area, Pastor Jude Chukwunwike, as well as Council Chairman of Warri South West Local Government Area, Chief Sylvester Oromoni, encouraged their youths and eligible constituents present at the sensitization programme to spread the goodness to their friends and relatives, assuring them of their readiness to assist financially and otherwise, so as to ensure that they get enlisted in the ongoing 89th Regular recruits intake of the Nigerian Army.

The Council Chairmen commended governor Oborevwori’s visionary leadership, and excellent performance within two years in office. They thanked the governor for setting up the awareness committee, while assuring the state government of their maximum cooperation in the drive to enlist more Delta youths into military and paramilitary services.

Speaking to newsmen, the Committee Chairman, and Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon ThankGod Harry Trakiriowei, said the number of Delta applicants recruited into Military and Paramilitary services increased since the committee commenced awareness campaign, assuring that Delta will in the ongoing recruitment exercise fill up her quota as directed by the State Governor, Dr (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori.

In the same vein, the Committee Head of Media and Communications, and Director General of Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe said all military and paramilitary recruitments are in line with the Renewed Hope for MORE agenda of the federal and state governments, which is why the committee shall continue to sensitive Delta youths to take advantage of the ongoing Nigerian Army 89th Regular recruits intake, and other Recruitments in the armed forces and Paramilitary services.

He noted that more youths are getting involved in all military recruitments as can be seen from increasing number of Delta applicants, while thanking the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, over his unwavering commitment to ensure that the Committee attain her terms of reference through his regular oversight functions on behalf of the state governor, Dr (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, JP.

The.committee is currently on sensitization and awareness creation tour of local government areas to educate youths on the numerous advantages of serving Nigeria through the armed forces and Paramilitary services.

Those in attendance at the awareness campaign at Oniocha South and Warri South West Local Government Areas include; the Committee Chairman and Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon ThankGod Harry Trakiriowei, the two Council Chairmen at their respective local government areas, Pastor Jude Chukwunwike and Mr Sylvester Oromoni, and their councillors, Director General of Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, Dr Ngozi Mogbolu, Delta State Youth Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Kenneth Okorie, Committee members – Mr Alfred Origbo and Mr Emma Egodo of the Directorate of Political and Security Services, Governor’s Office Asaba, among others.
