NSUK Partners with Portugal to Unlock Global Education Opportunities for Nigerian Students

In continuation of its special lecture series, the Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK), has witnessed another remarkable lecture delivered by HE Paulo Martins Santos, the Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to Nigeria.

The 6th lecture series was held at the schools of postgraduate studies of the University was attended by members of the Diplomatic corps, academia, and students.

Speaking on “Educational Opportunities within the Framework of Portugal-Nigeria Bilateral Relations” the Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to Nigeria, HE Paulo Martins Santos, highlighted the growing partnership between Nigeria and Portugal in education.

The Portuguese Ambassador, further highlighted the potential benefits of the collaboration between NSUK and Portugal, including increased access to global education opportunities for Nigerian students.

Ambassador Paulo Martins Santos, who is marking his second year as the Portuguese envoy to Nigeria, emphasized the importance of educational mobility and energy cooperation between both nations.

“Nigeria is the main supplier of energy to Portugal We’ve got hundreds — a minimum of 300 to 400 Nigerians — going to Portugal every year to study,”

The events at showcased the university’s commitment to internationalization and cooperation. NSUK has been actively engaging in international collaborations, as seen in its partnership with the European Union.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, emphasized the importance of such partnerships in fostering academic growth, capacity building, and cross-cultural understanding.

The Vice Chancellor, commended Ambassador Santos for his impactful presentation and the message it carried.

“This lecture presents to us the gross partnership between Nigeria and Portugal, hence enhancing education and driving growth and development.”

According to her, the Brunon Holyst Institute of European Studies at NSUK is a prime example, aiming to build a robust bridge between Europe and West Africa for academic exchange and research.

“The presentation today sheds more light on collaboration and exchange between Portugal and Nigeria.”

These collaborations can lead to various benefits, including, Academic Opportunities, Scholarships, while Students may be eligible for scholarships or exchange programs such as Joint Research Projects between Faculty and students International Exposure Capacity Building.

Faculty members can enhance their skills through international training and collaborations and Partnerships can lead to improvements in university infrastructure, Cultural Cross-Cultural Understanding among others .

Prof. Eugene Tarkende Aliegba, Director of the Brunon Holyst Institute of European Studies at NSUK, shared insights into the international language programmes available at the institute.

“There are five programmes running here — Portuguese, English, French… but the compulsory one is Portuguese, we, as an institution, committed to training business people who are willing to partner with Poland, thereby drawing connections between language education and global entrepreneurship.

By exploring educational opportunities within the framework of Portugal-Nigeria bilateral relations, NSUK’s special lecture series likely aims to Foster cooperation between Nigerian and Portuguese institutions, Provide students with international opportunities and exposure and Enhance the university’s global reputation and partnerships
