….Says War Against Substance Abuse Yielding Positive Results

The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, has been commended by Delta State Government for his unwavering commitment to the ongoing war against substance abuse and arrest of drug dealers in his domain, and by extension Delta State.

The commendation was made on Sunday by the Director General of Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, in appreciation of the series of arrests made by the Asaba Drug Awareness and Rehabilitation committee in collaboration with law enforcement agents in the state capital.

The Asaba Drug Awareness and Rehabilitation Committee was recently inaugurated by HRM Asagba Azinge, to flush out drug dealers from his kingdom, rehabilitate drug victims and reintegrate them into the society.

The Bureau said that the Chief Nwanze Oduah led Committee in collaboration with security agencies arrested over 35 dealers and several illicit drugs users at some red spots within Asaba and environ in the past two weeks, and handed all the suspects to the state commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Mr. Halilu Hamidu, at Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State.

Dr Oghenesivbe described Asagba Azinge as a no nonsense royal father, a disciplinarian and a legal icon with zero tolerance for lawlessness, substance abuse, drug dealing and all forms of immorality, noting that the Asaba Drug Awareness and Rehabilitation Committee has demonstrated significant commitment towards the war against substance abuse as can be seen from recent arrests and sensitization campaigns. He urged the committee not to rest on its oars.

He assured that the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, will continue to do the needful in collaboration with stakeholders to ensure that the Drug Free Delta campaign and rehabilitation of drug victims is pursued vigorously until drug dealers and illicit drugs street hawkers are chased out of the state.

The Bureau Chief passionately appealed to other traditional rulers in the state, as well as Community Leaders and Local Government Chairman to emulate the efforts of Asagba Azinge, by collaborating with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Security Agencies and the State Government in the ongoing war against substance abuse, arrests and prosecution of drug dealers and street hawkers.

“The State Bureau of Orientation and Communications commends and appreciate His Royal Majesty, Asagba Epiphany Azinge, SAN, and the Asaba Drug Awareness and Rehabilitation committee for their superlative commitment towards a drug Free Asaba and its communities.

“Recent arrests of drug dealers, street sellers and buyers in different parts of Asaba and villages attests to the unwavering commitment of Asagba Azinge’s efforts in eradicating illicit drugs and dealers from his domain.

“The State Orientation and Communications Bureau, strongly recommend that other royal fathers, community leaders and local government Chairmen should kindly collaborate with the NDLEA, security agencies and the state government to combat substance abuse, arrest and prosecution of drug dealers and sellers in their kingdoms, Communities and LGAs,” Oghenesivbe added.
