PRESS STATEMENT:
NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (NYCN), NASARAWA STATE, CELEBRATES YOUNG PEOPLE ON THE OCCASION OF INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY, 2025.
12th August 2025.
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Nasarawa State Chapter, under my able leadership joins millions of young people across the globe to commemorate International Youth Day Celebration 2025, on the theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond.” This year’s theme underscores the importance and crucial role of grassroots youth initiatives in driving the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and sustaining progress beyond 2030.
As the apex youth decision making body in the state, NYCN acknowledged the tremendous achievements and socio-economic transformations witnessed in Nasarawa state under His Excellency, Engr Abdullahi A. Sule led administration which is premix on support, resilience, creativity and innovative ideas of our young population across communities. Nasarawa youths are already championing peace building, community development, quality education, entrepreneurship, and social justice, substantiating that positive change begins locally.
Consequently, despite the efforts by the Government at all levels, council also acknowledged some challenges faced by young people which includes but not restricted to unemployment, Economic instability, poor representation in politics and governance, Limited access to funding, Education, health care, rising costs of living, among others. As leaders of young people we have been exhibiting unwavering commitments towards addressing these challenges to make life better and easy for our contemporaries.
The leadership of the state Council reiterates and reaffirms its commitment to:
~ Complement the efforts of government through policy formulation and implementation on youth matters
~ Promoting peace, unity, and security in line with Nasarawa state vision for community development, stability and overall progress of the state.
~ Continuous advocating for youth participation in governance at local, state, and National levels.
~ Fostering skills development and innovation through training, mentorship, and technology adoption at the grassroot.
On this International Youth Day, we call on the government, private sector, civil society, and international partners to invest meaningfully in Nigerian youth more especially, at the grassroot. Effective development can only be achieved when young people are equipped, empowered, and given a seat at the decision-making table.
We urge every youth of Nasarawa state to take ownership and lead in community development projects and peace building, let lead by example and work collectively towards a prosperous Nasarawa state.
We shall be ungrateful if we fail to appreciate and recognize the massive infrastructural development across communities of the state, employment of young people into government establishment, appointment of young people into cabinet and the investment drive by Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule’s-led administration. We thank His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule for being the best youth friendly, productive and impactful governor.
Happy International Youth Day Celebration
Signed:
Comrade Ja’afar Muhammad Loko,
Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria,
Nasarawa State Chapter.
