Delta Gov’t urges citizens to participate in continuous voter registration

…..As in-person voter registration begins on August 25

The Delta State Government has appealed to citizens aged 18 years and above to participate in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) In-Person Voters Registration exercise. This exercise is scheduled to commence on Monday, August 25, 2025, across Nigeria, including Delta State.

The registration process follows an initial online pre-registration phase that started on Monday, August 18, 2025. Eligible citizens who pre-register online can then proceed to any designated INEC local government or state office to complete their physical registration in person. Those who did not pre-register online can also register directly at designated centers starting August 25.

The exercise will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, over an extended period to accommodate the registration of new voters, updates of existing voter information, transfers, and resolution of issues such as defective, lost, or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

In a statement by Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Director General of the Delta State Bureau for Communications and Orientation, citizens who have reached voting age of 18 are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to register and exercise their voting rights.

The Bureau Chief emphasized the importance of the PVC as a key to participatory democracy and urged all eligible voters in Delta State to actively engage in the registration process.

The registration is a prerequisite for voting in the upcoming 2027 general elections, and INEC has put in place facilities for voters to check their registration status and designated PVC collection centers online through the INEC Continuous Voter Registration Portal.

This nationwide exercise by INEC is part of preparations for the 2027 elections and aims to ensure that all eligible Nigerians can register and be ready to vote.

The state government said voter registration is a constitutional responsibility of every citizen, which enables a holder of the Permanent Voters Card, PVC, to cast his or her vote for candidates of choice during general elections, adding that registration centres are located in all local government offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission, in the state.

According to the Bureau, the registration exercise will begin from 9.00am to 3.00pm during weekdays (Monday to Friday) only, to enable those who prefer the in-person option to register, and for the online pre-registrants to complete their registration, pointing out that the online and In-Person registration options will proceed simultaneously throughout the CVR, as indicated in the schedule earlier released by INEC.

The State Bureau for Orientation disclosed that it would embark on a state-wide sensitisation campaign, to include markets, Schools, motor parks and other places across the three senatorial districts to educate eligible citizens on the benefits of the Continuous Voters Registration exercise, CVR, adding that the registration is free of charge.

The State Government urged all traditional rulers, heads of faith-based organisations, student union leaders, market leaders, elected representatives and political appointees to encourage and provide necessary assistance to their subjects, members and constituents, to enable them to register during the exercise.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced its readiness to commence a full-scale voters registration exercise nationwide from 25th August, 2025.

“The exercise provides another unique opportunity for citizens who have attained the age of 18 years to register and collect their Permanent Voters Card, PVC.

“The exercise will hold in all INEC offices across the 25 local government areas in Delta State, and across Nigeria.

“The Delta State Government is appealing to all eligible citizens of 18 years and above to participate in the mandatory voter registration exercise.

“It’s your civic and constitutional responsibility to register, collect your PVC and vote during general elections in 2027, and any other election conducted by INEC.

“Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications will embark on a state-wide sensitisation campaign, and in the Mass media, to educate eligible citizens on the benefits of the voters registration exercise across the three senatorial districts,” the statement added.
