Amb. Alewa Akawu, others Honoured at NSUK Research and Exhibition Event

The Group Managing Director and Chairman of Alewa Akawu Facilities Management Limited, Dr. Alewa Akawu Nasiru, has emphasized the importance of research and innovation in achieving academic success.

He made this remark during the 9th Annual Research Fair and Exhibition at Nasarawa State University in Keffi, held at the assembly hall.

Delivery a key not address, Amb. Alewa Akawu Nasiru, the Managing director and Chairman, , Alewa Akawu facilities management limited, stressed that research and innovation are crucial for academic success, highlighting their impact on societal development.

Dr. Alewa encouraged collaboration between academia and industry to drive innovation and progress said the event provided a platform for showcasing research findings, innovative projects, and products, promoting a culture of research and innovation within the university community.

“This event represents more than an academic tradition, it is a celebration of innovation, creativity and scholarship. Research is a life blood of academic growth and national development. Through research and exhibition such as this, Universities reafirm their central role in shaping society”.

The Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Dr. Halima Aliyu Doma, and former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Akaro Mainoma, said research and exhibition were introduced in 2014 as a means of facilitating interaction within the university and outside.

According to them, the theme of this year’s edition, “Quadruple Helix Imperative: Shaping the Future through University, Industry, Community, and Government Partnership for Capacity Building,” was deliberately chosen in line with the university’s drive to improve its academic and administrative operations.

Prof. Josiah Onovo, Director of the Directorate of Research, Innovation, and Enterprise, said research and innovation are essential drivers of economic development, societal advancement, and technological progress and commended the university management for encouraging members of the academia to focus on research that will attract funding and investment.

“This, will promote talent and entrepreneurial development, as well as knowledge transfer among staff and students, and commercialization by converting research output into viable products and services”.

The event featured presentations by Prof. Ibrahim Katampe from the Center for Excellence in Emerging Technology, Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio, USA, former Vice Chancellor of Federal University Lafia, Prof. Ekanem Braide, and Dr. Musa Yahaya Maikefi, Provost of the College of Agriculture, Science, and Technology, Lafia, who provided different perspectives on how research and innovation can be achieved and promoted.

The event also included the presentation of awards to distinguished Nigerians, including Amb. Alewa Akawu and Dr. Kasim Mohammed Kasim, Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board, among others and a display of various products produced by faculties of the university.
