By Roseline Okafor, Nasarawa
The Kokona Local Government legislative council has reasserted its unwavering support for Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration and Chairman Agbawu Mek Agbawu’s leadership.
This declaration follows the council’s recent controversy surrounding six members who expressed support for a particular governorship aspirant in Nasarawa State.
Governor Abdullahi Sule had cautioned his appointees against prematurely declaring support for specific governorship aspirants, emphasizing that the timing was not right for political campaigns.
However, some individuals, including the six members of the Kokona legislative council, defied this directive and publicly expressed support for certain aspirants.
Speaker Abdulkareem Goma Usman swiftly condemned their actions, labeling them as illegal and contrary to Governor Sule’s directives.
He emphasized the importance of unity and adherence to the council’s directives, announcing that the six members would face disciplinary action in line with the Kokona legislative council’s rules, serving as a deterrent to others.
On their parts, the deputy speaker, Dauda Abdullahi Kana, and the majority leader, Smart Jatau Akenyi, dissociated themselves from the six members’ commendation, stating it reflected personal interests.
They reaffirmed their support for Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration and the local government chairman, emphasizing their commitment to the state’s development.
