Forget Roaming with Cattle, Ranching and Fulani Education Are My Priority — Senator Wadada
By Yahaya Idris, Lafia
Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District and an aspirant for the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has pledged to prioritise cattle ranching, education for Fulani communities and peaceful coexistence if elected governor.
The senator said his administration would discourage the practice of open grazing, insisting that modern ranching offers greater economic opportunities for herders while reducing conflicts between farmer and pastoralists
Wadada made the declaration on Sunday while hosting more than 10 support groups at his Polo Ranch in Keffi, where he outlined what he described as a practical approach to livestock development and rural transformation.
According to him, the continuous movement of cattle across communities is no longer sustainable, stressing that many herders and their livestock endure difficult living conditions that can be improved through structured ranching systems.
“I have always told you that roaming around with your cattle is never a better life for you and your cattle. Therefore, you must forget about roaming the cities with your cattle. Ranching, to me, is big business for you. It will give your cows a healthy look that can attract more money for your family’s wellbeing,” he said.
The lawmaker explained that under his proposed policy, government-supported ranches would provide feeding, veterinary care and water for livestock, while herders would pay regulated service fees. He added that children of pastoralists would have access to formal education and vocational training to prepare them for future opportunities.
Wadada further stated that government would eventually encourage private sector participation in ranch management to enhance efficiency, generate revenue and create sustainable employment across the livestock value chain.
He maintained that adopting ranching would significantly reduce recurring clashes between farmers and herders, improve security across the state and promote peaceful coexistence among different communities.
“We must appreciate modernization, accept innovations and move forward with changing situations,” the senator said while urging stakeholders to embrace reforms in the livestock sector.
Addressing his supporters, Wadada also appealed for peaceful political engagement ahead of the 2027 electioneering season. He advised members not to respond to insults or provocation on social media or other platforms, saying his campaign would remain focused on issues of governance and development.
He said anyone seeking the mandate of the people should present a clear blueprint backed by a verifiable record of public service rather than relying on material inducements.
According to the senator, his campaign is anchored on the Wadada HEARTS Agenda, which he said contains practical policy proposals for sustaining and expanding the developmental strides recorded under Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration.
The meetings brought together former female councillors in Nasarawa State and support groups from Agwada, Akwanga, Lafia, Laminga and Bassa.

The engagements were coordinated by the Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu Campaign Council through Professor Suleiman Mohammed Bala, Imran Usman, Keffi Local Government Chairman Dr. 88, and the immediate past Chairman of Keffi LGA, Alhaji Mohammed Babashehu.
As part of the gathering, the former female councillors received three vehicles to enhance their political mobilisation, with one vehicle allocated to each senatorial zone. Several support groups also received cash donations running into millions of naira.
