President Congratulates Abdulrazaq Isa Kutepa, Bala Wunti, Others on Historic WEC Nigeria Board
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed Nigeria’s formal admission as the newest National Member Committee of the World Energy Council (WEC), describing the development as a significant milestone and a strong endorsement of the country’s ongoing energy reforms.
The President also congratulated the inaugural leadership of WEC Nigeria, led by businessman and industrialist Abdulrazaq Isa Kutepa as Chairman and energy strategist Bala Wunti as Chief Executive Officer.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said Nigeria’s entry into the century-old global energy network would strengthen the country’s role in international discussions on energy security, equity and sustainability.
According to the President, joining the WEC, which brings together more than 100 countries, provides Nigeria with a strategic platform to influence global energy policy and advance Africa’s interests in the rapidly evolving energy landscape.
Tinubu Congratulates WEC Nigeria Leadership
President Tinubu congratulated Isa, Wunti and other distinguished Nigerians appointed to the pioneer board of WEC Nigeria.
The board comprises professionals and experts drawn from various segments of the energy value chain, including regulatory institutions, industry associations, finance, academia and the Future Energy Leaders community.
Tinubu described Abdulrazaq Isa as a distinguished patriot and trailblazing industrialist, noting that his investments in indigenous refining and industrial energy had opened new opportunities for Nigerian enterprise.
The President also described Bala Wunti as “one of Nigeria’s finest energy strategists and reform champions,” citing his more than three decades of service and contributions to the sector.
According to Tinubu, Wunti’s leadership was instrumental to landmark reforms that strengthened national revenues and helped restore investor confidence in Nigeria’s energy industry.
‘Nigeria Has Joined WEC to Lead’
The President said the diverse composition of the inaugural WEC Nigeria Board would provide the organisation with the balance, neutrality and credibility needed to achieve its objectives.
“Nigeria has joined the World Energy Council to lead, not just participate – to ensure Africa’s voice shapes global energy decisions,” Tinubu declared.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for WEC Nigeria as a neutral and technology-agnostic platform for policy dialogue, investment mobilisation and innovation in the energy sector.
Tinubu further pledged Nigeria’s commitment to working with the WEC headquarters in London and the wider global energy community to promote secure, affordable and sustainable energy for all.
The President wished the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and members of the inaugural board success as they undertake what he described as a historic national assignment.
