The Gbukun-Gbunchu-Kambre (GGK) communities in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have resolved to align with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and support its candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The decision was contained in a communique issued at the end of a well-attended Town Hall Meeting held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at the Cultural Playground, Gbukun Madaki, Akwanga LGA.
The communique, delivered by the Chairman of the Town Hall Meeting, Prof. Samuel E. Alu, said the decision followed extensive deliberations on the political, developmental and socio-economic interests of the three communities.
According to Alu, the communities resolved to work collectively and peacefully towards supporting APC candidates across various elective positions in 2027, subject to applicable electoral and party processes.
The meeting also acknowledged and appreciated government interventions that have positively impacted the communities, particularly in road infrastructure and other development programmes, while calling for additional projects.
The communities said they would continue to engage government at appropriate levels on critical issues, including infrastructure, healthcare, security, employment and education.
The Town Hall further called on sons and daughters of GGK to participate actively and peacefully in the democratic process while respecting the political choices of fellow citizens.
It stressed the importance of unity, solidarity and collective action among the Gbukun, Gbunchu and Kambre communities, irrespective of individual political differences.
The communique also urged stakeholders to promote voter education, lawful political mobilisation and sensitisation of eligible voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
It noted that all political activities must be conducted in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, regulations of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and relevant party rules.
Prof. Alu said the communities’ participation in the 2027 electoral process should be guided by collective interest, peaceful coexistence and sustainable development.
“The 2027 electoral season should not become a source of division among brothers, sisters, families and neighbours. Rather, it should provide an opportunity for the people to articulate their aspirations and engage leaders constructively.”
The Town Hall called on community leaders, youths, women, professionals and traditional stakeholders to work together in the spirit of peace, tolerance, mutual respect and issue-based engagement before, during and after the elections.
The resolution was endorsed by the Chun Gbukun, Chun Gbunchu, Chun Kambre and their respective MDA Chairmen.
Meanwhile, stakeholders who spoke at the meeting identified insecurity as one of the major challenges confronting the communities and called on the government to intensify efforts to protect lives and property.
