The House of Representatives Candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), and Immediate past State Administrative Secretary of the All Progressive Congress, Chief Paul Meregini, has revealed the rationale behind his decision to seek the people’s mandate to represent the Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency of Abia state in the National Assembly come 2023.
This comes barely after a week ago, he emerged as the sole candidate of the Action Democratic Party for the seat of Ikwuano/Umuahia bloc in the green chamber during the just concluded statewide primary elections held in Abia and many other states of the federation.
Recall that Meregini had picked the House of Representatives seat ticket, through unanimous affirmation by larger ADP members from the electoral wards of the Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Local Government Areas that formed the present federal constituency.
However, while speaking in an interview with journalists at his Umuahia residence on Monday, Chief Meregini hinted that he is vying for the exalted seat in the green chamber of the national Assembly to provide an effective and responsive representation tilted at raising the bar in Infrastructure, economy and human capital development, maintaining that enough have not been done to give every section of the federal constituency a developmental facelifts, as the constituency had remained one of the least areas with Infrastructural deficits.
He also reiterated that no tangible and pragmatic efforts has been recorded to foster the needed developments being yearned by people of the Ikwuano and Umuahia areas by the successive occupants of the revered seat of federal constituency seat at the house of representatives, decrying the deteriorating condition of the umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road after several announcement of its approval for reconstruction work by the government and the current representative of the federal constituency.
The ADP House of Representatives standard bearer, promised to synergize with relevant authorities of the federal and state executive arm of governments to attract impactful projects at uplifting the standard of livelihoods and the general welfare of the constituents of the Ikwuano/umuahia areas, irrespective of individual political leanings, when supported to emerge victorious as a member of the National Assembly in the forthcoming 2023 main elections in the country.
Meregini also reeled out some important areas of focus as contained in developmental blueprints when entrusted with people’s mandate, which includes, rising the collapsed system of education, through attraction of building and reconstruction of new and moribund school blocks across the federal constituency, attraction of construction and rehabilitation of durable and accessible roads, especially at rural communities to guarantee easy access and movement of vehicular within the three local government areas of Ikwuano/Umuahia extraction.
Continuing, the frontline Abia Party chieftain said, “i will make laws and move motions a oversight functions will not only attract building of accessible roads, my representation will restore potable borne water, and attract and resuscitate health service delivery within the federal constituency to improve livelihoods. I will equally interface with relevant government agencies and critical stakeholders in Agric sector to facilitate provision of incentives and mechanized agricultural tools to empower farmers at the grassroots to encourage food sufficiency in every households in the constituency.
“Another area of focus is wealth creation. I will make a productive move to interfacing with private-sector driven Industries to ensure our youths, men and women are engaged and to reduce the high rates of unemployment and restiveness among our people. I will also use the exalted seat when elected as member of the House of Representatives to facilitate federal jobs for our indigent graduates from the Ikwuano/ Umuahia federal constituency to encourage them to be self dependent and reliant to provide for daily needs of their families. We are working on a templates, structured on socio-economic and Infrastructural growths and development of our constituency for our good”.
The Ibeku-born politician reiterated that he’s not running for the House of Representatives seat to get elected and enrich himself with public funds but to render service to God and humanity with utmost sincerity and honesty.
Meregini further used the medium to call on all eligible indigenes of Ikwuano/umuahia area and entire Abia people who are eighteen years and above, to register and collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) to enable them exercise their franchise by electing him, as he posses the clear vision, capacity, competence, and expertise to attract meaningful Infrastructures to the federal Constituency.
