Abia 2023: Ogah harps on independent funding for judiciary arm towards attaining zenith of complete impartiality.

 

The Governorship Standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 general elections in Abia State, Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, has harped on the implementation of sound policies to encourage dispensation of justice to the common man and towards advancing the Nigeria society.

Ogah who noted the crucial roles being played by judiciary arm of government towards deepening the current democratic process in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized, advocated improved welfare packages for judicial workers, and enhancement of critical infrastructure for the judiciary attain its zenith of complete impartiality among other global practices through independent funding, staff remuneration and implementation of all requirements to enable the arm of government to remain the last hope of the ordinary person even as it prescribes justice which must be done and which must be seen to have been done.

He spoke through a statement on Thursday, on the heels of his bid to become governor of Abia state in 2023 after the general elections by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the country.

Ogah, however, promised to commence procedures on bequeathing true independence on the state’s judicial branch of government such that, the judiciary in Abia can embark on its own capital projects, implement its reforms, and as well as offer adequate remuneration to lead the pace when supported to emerge as governor in the forthcoming general elections in 2023.

Ogah who was also the immediate past Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, also pledged to ensure the judiciary in Abia state become a beacon that other states will emulate when elected into office as governor in 2023.

According to the frontline gubernatorial candidate, “what we would achieve in Abia state judiciary will catalyse a ripple effect that will inspire judicial reforms and excellence in other state’s judiciaries.

“Through the grace of God and the popular will of Abians, we will deliver such a befitting judiciary in the state and other states will come to understudy”.

Ogah partly stated, “In order to uplift the human Society and ensure it stays in the echelon appropriate to it, there are certain institutions which all efforts must not be spared in its advancement and sustenance. The judiciary is one of such institutions.

“Therefore, in my avowed quest to create an advanced society within Abia state and reposition the state to achieve greatness as other societies within Nigeria, there is urgent need to endow a modern and self sustaining judiciary in Abia state.

“In deed, inspire of all experiences one may have in the course of interacting and associating with others, in business or personal living, it is the judiciary that serves to adjudicate on issues that may occur in order to ensure there’s sustained peace and maintenance of law and order in our society”.

Our correspondent recalls that Uche Ogah had on 26th of May 2022, emerged as the Abia governorship standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress in the recently-concluded gubernatorial primary elections for the forthcoming 2023 general elections in Abia state.

Ogah was declared the winner of the just concluded gubernatorial primary elections after he scored 141,952 votes to beat his closest rival, Paul Ikonne who scored 27,054.

Other gubernatorial aspirants includes, Chief Ikechi Emenike who polled 9,446, Emeka Atuma with 7,429, Obinna Oriaku with 5,553, Alex Otti scored 2,41, and Daniel Eke who got 1,953 at the keenly contested direct primaries.
