Abia intra-party crisis: Ikechi Emenike, Apugo, others diverted 2019 election campaign funds—APC Group blows hot.

A soco-political umbrella group in Abia state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Forum of Stakeholders for Justice and Good Governance (SJGG), has cautioned the leadership of the party on treacherous machinations of some desperate and disgruntled APC leaders to undermine the uncommon strides already achieved by the party in the past years.

The group which recalled its past experiences during last concluded general elections in Abia state in 2019, and frowned in strong terms the anti party postures displayed by most of the APC leaders which it noted severely decimated and truncated several opportunities of the party in forming a government in the state and provide the necessary democratic dividends in every doorsteps of Abia people.

The umbrella group also faulted the rationale behind the decision of the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to field maverick Abia politician and factional party leader, Ikechi Emenike as gubernatorial candidate for the coming 2023 elections, in total defiance of the loud voices and opposition from the majority of party leaders, members and teeming supporters on the latter’s purported governorship ambition under the party platform, envisioning that should APC goes ahead to field Emenike for the upcoming main election it would be easy route for PDP to retain power after the 2023 elections as he lacked the requisite capacity and needed expertises yearned by Abia electorates over the years.

The group lambasted Ikechi Emenike for constituting as stumbling block and agent of destabilization against the APC and her electoral success, and further insisted that Emenike had remained a clog in the wheel of progress of Abia APC, and had equally remained a willing tool in the hand of the Peoples Democratic Party, and is being used for destructive mission.

According to group, “it’s undisputable facts that Ikechi Emenike has remained reluctant and undeterred in his penchants in causing disaffections among party members. It is on record that sometime in 2018, the maverick politician hired political thugs and invaded the state party secretriate at Azikwe road, hold unauthorized meeting with loyalists and hirelings, and hoodlums that accompanied him, and as well, carted away sensitive documents belonging to the party. If not timely intervention of the security operatives who stormed at the scene and arrested one of the hired hoodlums, there would be bloodletting in umuahia the day of the ugly scenario.

“The problems facing Abia APC today is attributable to anti party activities of Ikechi Emenike who happened to be in the payroll of the Government of Abia state led by PDP. This was noticeable and was demonstrated by Emenike. And it would be recalled that all funds amounting to billions of naira accrued to Abia APC was diverted by the factional leader, Ikechi Emenike, Hon Donatus Nwankpa, Senator Chris Adighije, Hon Paul Ikonne, Prince B. B Apugo, Nyerere Anyim, Hon Nkeiruka Onyejiocha, Hon Benjamin Kalu, Comrade Ben Godson, Chief Ogunka Adiele, Hon Iheanacho Obioma. These fellows have much to explain the whereabout of the funds sent to Abia chapter of the party for logistics to persecute 2019 campaigns and main elections.

“These party leaders have come again to carry the same evil plan under the guise to be working the APC, and they have positioned themselves to pocket another funds that would dispatch to state chapters of the APC for the forthcoming general elections. This must stop. APC is not money making machine. Party member ought to use the funds to what it was meant for. Most of the people who worked as agents were not paid to them despite the release of the monies by the national leadership of our great party”.

On the lawsuits against the outcome of the May 26 2022 Gubernatorial primaries held by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2023 main elections, Forum of Stakeholders for Justice and Good Governance, admonished the party leadership to adhere to its rules and withdraw the name of the factional Gubernatorial candidate of the party, Ikechi Emenike, and include the Uche Ogah’s name in the ballots as he remained most qualified, competent and capable to addressing the myriads of problems besetting the state.

The group expressed optimism that justice and will of the people must prevails, reaffirmed their supports to the 2023 governorship candidacy of the immediate past minister of state for mines and steel Development, Dr Uche Sampson Ogah, and reiterated that the ex-minister posses the wherewithal to rewrite the narrative of governance in Abia state and address the Infrastructural deficits adorning in every nooks and crannies of the state when elected as governor of Abia state come 2023.
