“Adopt Carrot and Stick Approach to Solve the Crises in Bassa” NUT Boss Cries Out.

Kogi State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has appealed to warring parties in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State to give peace a chance and allow room for peaceful resolution.

Chairman of the Union, Comrade Joel Salifu made the appealed while speaking with newsmen in Lokoja, the State capital.

Comrade Salifu said the lingering crises has affected the community negatively and appealed to stakeholders to urgently wade in to avert further pain on innocent citizens and teachers

He particularly urged community leaders in Kpanche and Mozum to seek a common ground for negotiation noting that the natives and migrants had lived together peacefully for a long time.

The NUT Chairman also appealed to the state government to temper justice with mercy and rescind on her decision to suspend the salaries on innocent and law abiding professional teachers in the area.

According to him, the vast majority that are innocent usually bear the consequences of communal clash.

He also appealed to the state government to implore the carrot and stick approach adopted by the federal government to handle the core north and Niger Delta area.

Comrade Salifu also directed teachers in the area to be at their duty post.

He emphasized that the future of innocent students and pupils should not be Jeopardized with crises or frivolities.

The chairman maintained that he has set up a monitoring team to enforce strict compliance to directive and warned that actions would be taken against those who failed to comply.
