Given the fast-approaching National Convention, the All Progressives Youth Alliance (APYA), an APC youth pressure group, has declared support for the candidature of His Excellency, Sen. Umaru Tanko Al-Makure, declaring him as the only person with the requisite capacity to leverage for true and internal democracy in the ruling party, as a way of ensuring justice, fairness and equity.

In a statement issued by the National Secretary of the APYA, Prince Iyke Uwakwe, the group said the party’s incoming national chairman must be someone with a solid executive background, refined legislative experience, intercontinental exposure and proven administrative intelligence, who can understand the politics of equity, ‘give and take’, negotiation and balancing to promote a good sense of belonging among the leadership and membership of the party across board.

He further affirmed that the APYA believes it is the right time to break away from the tradition of using emotions to choose a national chairman of the party; and considering events of recent memory, the candidacy of Sen. Umaru Tanko Al-Makura is the best thing that could happen to the party at this point in history.

“Taking a cursory look at the list of contenders for the national chairmanship job, not less than ten people have shown interest but in terms of eminent Qualification, nationwide acceptability and placing a round peg in a round hole, Sen. Almakura is the man to beat.

“Although, the list is rich and the personalities involved have all it takes to oversee the affairs of the party; nevertheless, the contending issue is that whoever emerges among them would be a factor in the party’s 2023 fate, and taking a dispassionate and painstaking look at the contestants, the All Progressives Youth Alliance arrived at the well-founded conclusion that Sen. Umaru Tanko Al-Makura remains the best to lead the party,” the APYA scribe explained.

The APYA National Secretary also stressed that these APC youths opted to support the ambition of the former Nasarawa Governor, now Senator, after a careful examination of all the candidates in the race for the position, especially regarding their image in the wider Nigerian society, especially among non-partisan citizens.

He added that as members of the progressives family, APYA members welcome the party’s resolve to present the best candidates for the Presidency in 2023 as well as the national chairmanship position.

He noted further that it is the right time for all regions to shun politics of bitterness and support a strong candidate that would bring good governance to the party in particular and the nation at large.

The statement was concluded with a vote of confidence on the Chairman, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Governor Mala Buni of Yobe State for his decent track record and exemplary politics-without-bitterness, which have gained acceptance within the relevant quarters; while APYA believes that the esteemed leader will consolidate and improve upon his milestone achievements given his great exposure to advanced democratic culture cum highly influential network of political associates across the Northern and Southern zones of the country.
