The leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abia State has written to the national leader of the party, President Muhammadu Buhari on the purported inauguration and issuance of a certificate of return to one Kingsley Ononogbu who a Party chieftain, Ikechi Emenike presented to the national Caretaker Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni as the Chairman of the party in Abia State.

Our correspondent reports that the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of All Progressives Congress (APC), had on Thursday, 3rd February 2022 inaugurated newly-elected state chairmen of the party.

The state chairmen of the party were inaugurated by the Secretary of the party, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, at the national headquarters of the party in Abuja.

While the state chairmen were given certificates, no oath of office was administered to them at the hurriedly held event.

But, the Abia APC leaders, while stating their position which contained in an open letter addressed to President Buhari, and made available to newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital on Wednesday, said that the action of the national caretaker committee of the party is unacceptable to the majority of APC members in Abia State.

Among the prominent leaders of the party who signed the open letter addressed to the President includes,
Senator Chris Adighije, the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uchechukwu Ogah, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, serving member of the House of Representatives, Hon Sam Onuigbo and former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Dr Chris Akomas.

Continuing, the party leaders regretted that the national caretaker committee chairman, Governor Mala Buni and Secretary, Senator John Akpanudoedehe could conceive the unimaginable idea of ceding the structure of Abia APC to Chief Ikechi Emenike who according to them, is under suspension in his ward and has never supported the party, rather, had always dragged the party to the court during elections.

According to the leaders, “Abia state has grown to the position where it secured above 25 per cent of votes cast in the last presidential election without any contribution from Ikechi Emenike and our goal for 2023 is to win at least two senatorial seats, six House of Representatives seats, majority of the State Assembly seats and the Governorship.

“The mainstream Abia State APC which accounts for over 90 per cent of the Abia APC Membership stands by the congress conducted on 31st October 2021 at the Umuahia Township Stadium by the State Caretaker Committee led by Hon Donatus Nwankpa that produced the chairman in the person of Hon Iheanacho Obioma and other State Executive members”.

The Abia leaders further assured President Buhari that they would not be deterred in pursuit of the objective of bringing good governance to the people of Abia State by winning the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state as well winning the majority of other elective positions in Abia state.

“We humbly request your Excellency, Mr President and the lease of our great party to call the Caretaker Chairman and Secretary to order by directing them to retrace their undemocratic steps which threaten to destroy the Abia State chapter of the party”, they submitted.
