Armed Robbers Take over Lokoja/Abuja Road, Several Persons Feared Killed

Armed men in their scores suspected to be armed robbers on Sunday evening along Lokoja-Abuja Federal Highway attacked travellers at Kwaita village .

According to some eye witnesses several vehicles and passengers ran into the bandits and many were believed to have been killed .

Sources, some of who narrowly escaped from the scene of the incident narrated that the armed robbers blocked the high way with stones and other objects to prevent the motorists from escaping from the trap.

It was also gathered that other motorists travelling along the high way who unknowingly got to the scene could not escape as the bandits opened fire on them, killing and wounding several passengers.

It was also reported that a team of Military men also ran into the ambush, but cleared the road and helped to convey the corpses to the hospital.

The eye witness report could not immediately ascertain the actual number of people feared dead, and all efforts to reach the Police and Federal Road Safety Corps to ascertain the number of casualty were unsuccessful .

The Police Public Relation Officer of Kogi State Police Command William Ayah could not be reached for confirmation on the incidence, but top Police officer name withheld said the Kogi State Police Commissioner, CP Hakeem Busari has drafted some armed policemen and detective to the area.
