The Aspirant, seeking to represent Nasarawa West senatorial district of the All Progressives Congress APC, Barrister Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, says he is still in the race for the Nasarawa West senatorial primary election despite the pressure and frustration on him to withdraw.

Magaji was reacting to the arrest of his two supporters who protesting against irregularities in the process of the primary election yesterday night at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

The Nasarawa Western senatorial primary election was supposed to take place Sunday night after being postponed two times but was disrupted in the process due to the protest by the supporters of Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, who alleged irregularities by the electoral officers.

Addressing Journalists on the Matter said the era of imposition of unpopular candidates on the masses is over and accused the returning officer of denying him seeing the delegates list which he said was concocted and doctored to manipulate the conduct of the primary election in favor of the particular aspirant, stating that as a criminal law expert, he will not allow the illegal process of the election to happen in a democratic setting.

According to him, the electoral officer began the process to conduct the election without his consent, saying that he acted on intelligence that was why he got to know there was an election going on at the venue, on reaching there, he met the unknown delegates with fake party membership cards waiting to cast their votes for selfish interest.

He lamented the attitudes of some aspirants who did not stand their ground to ensure a free and fair primary election but rather chose to withdraw from the race due to the changing of delegates’ names, affirming that there has no been any Congress between Friday and Sunday which warranted for the changing of the list, calling on the leadership of the party to ensure sincerity in order not to destabilize the good image of the party at all levels, and also Zamfara state scenario should not happen in Nasarawa State.

The Frontline politician opined that his campaign has been peaceful throughout the period and distanced himself from the speculation that he brought political thugs to disrupt the election, calling on his supporters to remain calm as efforts are on top gear for the release of the two persons arrested among his supporters.

Labaran Magaji and Architect Shehu Tukur are contesting for the Senate seat of Nasarawa Western Senatorial district after the withdrawal of Aliyu Ahmed Wadada.

In a similar development, the senate election which was supposed to hold yesterday has been postponed for a second time due largely to outcry from the stakeholders and a contestant.

The new date is fixed for Wednesday and it is expected that stakeholders and executives members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, will give further directives on the mode of conduct of the primaries.
