Boat Regatta: “Culture Unifies And Reminds Us Who We Are” – Alh. Shaibu Oricha

The Director General, Kogi State Government House Administration, Alhaji Shaibu Oricha, has described culture as a unifying factor that should be embraced by all.

Alhaji Oricha made the assertion in an address at the 4th edition of the Annual Lokoja Boat Regatta Festival organized by the Lokoja Forum of Patriots and Rajan Ventures Ltd, in conjunction with the Lokoja Traditional Council.

Alhaji Shaibu Oricha, who was represented at the event by the Director of Protocol (DoP), Mr. Emma Dogwo, noted that culture plays a vital role at bringing people together to achieve a common front.

He pointed out that the Lokoja Regatta event no doubt, has again strengthened the bond of unity already existing between the various tribes in the State Capital, stressing that there was need for the event to be sustained.

“Over here we have the Kakandas, Kupas, Nupes, Eggan, Oworos, amongst others too numberous to mention, all having shares of the happiness that this Boat Regatta festival brings

“This is what culture does, it unifies us, it helps us settle our differences and keep us together as one

“Displaying our culture also reminds us who we are – our root and keeps our offsprings abreast of their heritage”

Alhaji Oricha, who appreciated the organizers for their commitment to the success of the Regatta, assured of his continuous support to the event at all times.

The DG Government House Administration added that the Lokoja Boat Regatta Festivalstival also created avenue for the youths to showcase their talents in the various competition they took part, urging participants to continue to work on their skills.

Traditional rulers, politicians, sons and daughters of Lokoja both at home and in the diaspora and other well wishers attended the event which featured several boat race, swimming competition, dance, traditional attire display, music and Award presentation to winners.
