By Abubakar Yusuf, Abuja.
The National Population Commission, NPC, has distanced itself from the recruitment portal currently in circulation on social media, saying it is a complete scam.
In a strongly worded press release issued by the Director, Public Affairs of the commission, Dr. Isiaka Yahaya stated that the information was false and misleading, saying it is the handiwork of scammers whose intention is to swindle the Nigerian public, particularly job seekers.

The commission, therefore, dissociates itself from the purported portal, stating that the portal meant for the ongoing trial census was shut down as soon as it concluded the recruitment for its exercise.
Dr. Isiaka maintained that the commission advertised on its social media on May 30th and other mainstream and conventional media and recruited about 14, 461 ad-hoc field functionaries for the trial census, which was commended on 27th, June 2022.

The commission says it will not renege on its promise of ensuring transparency in its activities towards the 2023 census, including the ad-hoc staff recruitment, maintaining that all communication will be through official statements, advertisements, website, and verified social media platforms.

The Director appealed to the general public to assist the commission in unraveling those behind the fake recruitment portal, saying it will deploy all means possible to unravel the scammers and bring them to book to serve as a deterrent to others, warning that the commission will not be precluded from its desire to conduct the first digital population and housing census in Nigeria in 2023, that will be credible and acceptable to all.
