Following a slow start to the cup tie, the Blues took the lead in the 24th minute thanks to an own goal by Oliver Norwood. After coming off the bench, Hakim Ziyech sealed the victory for the hosts in stoppage time.

With 18 minutes remaining, Tuchel decided to make two more substitutions, bringing on Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech for Billy Gilmour and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

McGoldrick was allowed to get past Azpilicueta on the byline in the 77th minute, forcing Kepa to tip the goal-bound cross-shot away.

With seven minutes remaining, Tuchel made his fifth and final substitution, bringing on N’Golo Kante to replace Pulisic, who was later named BBC Man of the Match.

In stoppage time, Rhian Brewster’s shot was deflected wide of the post as the visitors looked for a late equaliser. The Blues had a heart-in-mouth moment, but the risk was averted.

After a late counter-attack from the hosts, substitute Ziyech finished the game late in stoppage time by finding the bottom corner.

It was a lackluster performance in west London, but they got the job done and qualified for the semi-final draw, which will take place later on Sunday evening.
