Delta Traditional Rulers Summit On Power Rotation, Lauds Okowa’s Efforts In Peace Building.

One of the major focuses of the Okowa administration is peace building and peaceful coexistence. Looking back, the gains cannot be overemphasized as reflected in the consistent inflow of investments, GDP, and economic growth in nearly seven years and still counting.
The state governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, upon assumption of office on May 29, 2015, made it a point of duty to ensure that regular stakeholders meetings, strategic partnerships, provision of operational vehicles, equipment, logistics, and reasonable funding were effectively and efficiently utilized and/or deployed to improve and sustain security and peace building. The huge investments in this area yielded expected results.
This administration’s huge efforts in peace building have been and are still being applauded by international organizations, religious leaders, traditional rulers, past and present leaders of our country, including; former Military Head of State, Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Bishop Mathew Kukah, Archbishop Cyril Odutemi, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, among others.
To demonstrate his unrepentant commitments to the sustainability of peace and security in the state, the governor has been holding a series of meetings with stakeholders and heads of security agencies; provided operational vehicles, logistics, and equipment to boost security surveillance, tame crime, and apprehend criminals across the three senatorial districts.
Another factor responsible for sustainable peace is the creation of jobs and wealth for our teeming youth, equity in political appointments, prudent management of government resources, et al.

It follows that peace cannot be sacrificed on the altar of politics, which is why we must commend the current efforts being made by Delta North Traditional Rulers led by His Royal Majesty, the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Prof Chike Edozien, on the need to perfect power rotation arrangement on the senatorial basis in the state.
To this end, a one-day summit has been proposed by royal fathers in Delta North with a few to find lasting solutions to the hitch-free transmission of political power in the state. A fruitful deliberation took place on Tuesday 1st March between North and Central royal fathers at the Asagba’s palace in Asaba.
Consequently, North and Central monarchs resolved to ensure peaceful coexistence among ethnic nationalities in the three senatorial districts, dialogue with traditional rulers in Delta South; Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Isoko.
The royal fathers appealed to the Asagba of Asaba, to reach out to traditional rulers in Delta South, to agree on a suitable date and time for the special summit. HRM Obi Edozien accepted the responsibility and shall within a reasonable time perfect arrangement for the summit.
The summit is to enable the royal fathers to cross-fertilize ideas, craft modalities, and other result-oriented strategies for peaceful transmission of political power among the three senatorial districts devoid of rancor and unnecessary agitations, moving forward.
The initiate will no doubt contribute in no small measures in resolving the persistent war of words currently hitting up the polity, as can be seen from accusations, counter-accusations, and blame games by political gladiators, governorship aspirants, and their promoters occasioned by the struggle for political power.
It is hoped that the proposed traditional ruler’s summit will give birth to a new era in our Democratic politics by making important recommendations that would enable the political class to formulate internal guidelines, rules, and other modalities to perfect power rotation arrangement in the state.
