A tanker conveying diesel on Monday night burst into flames after falling at Felele in Lokoja Kogi state capital, killing 3 persons.
The Sector Commander of Federal Roads Safety Corps, Steven Dawulun, who confirmed the accident, disclosed several other victims are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja for high-degree burns.
He explained that the fire resulting from the Crash burnt two other trailers and a Dyna Pickup van consumed the 3 persons who were burnt to death while several other victims were rescued with burns and taken to FMC Lokoja for Medical attention.
According to the Sector Commander, the crash resulted from dangerous driving by the driver who suddenly lost control and ran into the 2 stationed trailers and cut fire.
While the tanker was burnt other vehicles including the Dyna pick-up van that was parked by the roadside got inflamed.
Free flow of traffic was disrupted due to the magnitude of the fire until the arrival of FRSC officers, who conducted traffic control to clear the hold-up that had built up.
Dawn warned that ” drivers of articulated vehicles especially those carrying flammable substances must always be cautious and drive within the regulated speed limit and also maintain all vehicle safety protocols like the use of safety valves to prevent spillages of content in the event of a crash. I have directed full investigation on the crash”.
