Edo PDP Crisis: Iyasere Expresses Concern Over Consequences of tensions, Proffers Solution

A renowned chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Prince (Dr) Francis Omo-Osunde Iyasere, JP, from, in a statement, claimed that he had made frantic effort to prevent the unnecessary heightening of tension in Edo PDP, noting that investigation showed that the more divided a party is while facing election, the more difficult it is for the elections. The more united Party is, the stronger and victorious the PDP would be in the elections in Edo State.

“It is again pertinent for me and must reiterate my commitment, to continue to sue for peaceful resolutions in Edo State. For me, those who are not ready to embrace peace but are hell-bent on fanning the embers of discord, hatred, and division are not only working for the opposition unknowingly but guilty of anti-party activities, as this must be spelled out without mincing words. It must be drummed into them with very lacerating words without political correctness since we have passed that level of political niceties.”

PDP as a Party, and I as one of the founding members, capped with the responsibility of speaking for the Party at one time as the Edo State PDP Publicity Secretary under the Chief Lucky Igbinedion’s/ Prof Osunbor administrations can attest to the pitfalls associated with unnecessary imbroglio and factionalized of a political party and that was why I concluded that we need to settle this crisis with all sincerity and honesty we can muster. However, all my efforts have seemed to be fruitless because some people who don’t understand the rudiments of strategy for winning elections believe that they can win elections without the input of others. If PDP is actually on a rescue mission to win this time around, the leadership must be ready to make a lot of sacrifices to make the rescue mission a reality. Nigerians are watching keenly, Edo State people are watching too. Therefore we need one another to be strong. We must not make the effort to underestimate anyone in politics.

Severally, I have tried to halt the escalation of this crisis which got to the crescendo some days ago, to the extent that two respected leaders of the PDP were exchanging crude and uncourt words in the media space, which is unfortunate. I guess this was an avoidable incident, considering the two gentlemen that were involved.

“I want to sincerely appeal to both sides to sheath their swords and to allow the BoT, NWC, and the NEC to intervene and find a lasting, equitable, fair, and amicable solution to the crisis.”

“I have always asked my younger brother and my in-law, Comrade Philip Shaiubu, the deputy governor to see himself as a PDP member of note because he cut his political teeth in the PDP before leaving to form the AC or ACN as the case may be.”

Now that he has come back, he should not see himself as a wanderer, an escort, or an outsider, but as a political force, fully united with his old stock members.

Chief Dan Orbih is another example too; he is an easy-going political tactician who is very easy to relate with, however, it baffles me that some people still do not know how to relate with this politician of no mean repute.

Let us remove ego and think more of the Party much more than ourselves.
If we can build a united, strong, and election-winning Party, which is the first leg, every other aspect will follow without a sweat.
