Alhaji Shehu Usman Osidi has described Egbira Youths as an engine room for Nigeria economy, growth and development who have made great impacts in all distinctions.

Alhaji Osidi who is the Deputy General Manager/Special Assistant to the Managing Director & Chief Executive Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria made the assertion when he presented a paper at a book launch in the Nasarawa State University Keffi, NSUK, to mark the 2021 Egbira National Students Association (ENSA) day.

In the lecture he delivered, Role of Education in Enhancing Societal Development, He thanked the organizer for finding him worthy to chair the event organised to mark the ENSA Day and equally launch a customised book.

“I have accepted this invitation with a great sense of nostalgia and fond memories of our own times in school. Thus, being here today is like coming to re-live that once in a life-time experience. Being here today is also to identify with our roots and encourage you as the core of our next generation, to keep the flag flying.”

He specifically commended the Egbira National Students Association (ENSA), Nasarawa State University Chapter for sustaining the ENSA Day event and deem it fit to publish the Customised Book being launched on Saturday.

“It is incumbent on all sons and daughters of Egbira Land to continue to support your endeavours and we will do that. The topic you have chosen as the focus of today’s lecture – The Role of Education in Enhancing Societal Development – is also worthy of commendation. You couldn’t have picked a more apt topic given our current circumstances. Education is central to development. It is an understatement to say that Education is the bedrock of the advancement of all nations. Knowledge is Power, they say, but it is through Education.

He stressed the need for education to be matched with the required knowledge base that will transform these resources into tangible assets for her citizens.

Alhaji Shehu Usman Osidi who served as Chairman of the occasion lamented over continuous exportation of raw materials and import finished products transformed through other people’s knowledge and described such as a vicious cycle: a cycle which must break out through the instrumentality of education.

“I won’t bore you with my own postulations as the Guest Speaker is set to do justice to the topic. However, one key area I love to touch in gatherings like this where we have concentration of our youth is entrepreneurship. Our youths must begin to embrace entrepreneurship.”

“As a nation, Nigeria is currently grappling with considerable challenges in all areas of our national life particularly youth unemployment. That is why we are experiencing a shift in focus in modern education curriculum with more emphasis now being laid on entrepreneurship.”

The astute banker said tackling youth unemployment, suggested that focus and mentality of han thinking must change from being employees to being creators of jobs with aimed to contributing to the economic development of this great nation and eliminating poverty.

“While it is incumbent on Government to provide the enabling environment, we as youths must also seize the initiatives and begin to empower ourselves. As you engage in this endeavour, you must continue to lay a good foundation for yourselves academically, don’t embrace anything at the detriment of your education. Sound education gives you an edge in any area of human endeavours you find yourself. Once acquired, nobody can take away your knowledge.”

He pleaded with Egbira Students not to neglect their studies as he openly endorsed their program and equally appreciated every individually who collectively done very well as a people.

“There is no field of human endeavour in which our people have not excelled be it in Public Service or Private Practice- Law, Engineering, Medicine, Banking or what have you! This is made possible through the acquisition of sound education.”

The event feature an awards to those who have contributed immensely to Egbira land, dancing, singing and drama.

Global Times Nigeria report that over 15 persons who have distinguished themselves in various field from Egbira land including Barr. Labaran Magaji, Barr. Muhammed Tanko Musa Osuku, Engr. Abubakar Bashir Gegu, Barr. Yakubu Galadima, Alhaji Muhammed Musa Maikaya, Kogi LG Chairman, Kogi LG Education Secretary, Kogi LG Treasurer, Kogi LG DLG, Alhaji Shehu Usman Osidi were honoured at the event.
