Elempe Dele Reporting

There was visible excitement by his followers as Chief Olu Fashanu

recently came back to PDP after over 6 years hiatus due to business concerns abroad.

The multimillionaire who is the Iyama of Okpe Kingdom in Akoko-Edo, Edo State have been away from active politics since 2016 because of multi-tasking business concerns in the UK and Singapore. The patriarch of the Fashanu dynasty have been a PDP leader at the national level down to his ward 6. He is a rallying point for members of the party until 2016 when he handed over the reins of leadership due to other pressing commitments outside the shores of the country, which kept him out of circulation most times since 2016.

Tempe Dele, one of his staunch followers met up with him after he had attended the PDP South-South Stakeholders Summit held in Uyo on the 21st March 2022, and he had this to say when questioned about his long absence from politics and PDP. In his usual broad range smile, the septuagenarian had this to say;

“Dele, I heard the rumour that i had left PDP, joined APC, and all those unfounded stories. Well, as you can see, all these are lies, I am just finishing the PDP SoutH-South Stakeholders Summit. You know more than I do that PDP is in my DNA and there is no way I can leave PDP for APC. What exactly would I be looking for?” He asked with a confounding smile. “We dey hungry? Hahahahaha! you know the reason why I have been away, but now, I am back and stronger.

“I want PDP to askew all kinds of internal bitter wrangling from the National level, state level, and LGA level. I have been very much in touch with happenings within the party and I can tell you the crisis in Edo State PDP is not one THAT is insurmountable. All we just need is sto it and talk like genuine stakeholders to find ways to resolve the issues. PDP leaders need to be united as to be able to win the coming elections at all levels.”
