Financial Autonomy: Nasarawa Assembly Set To Join PASAN Nation Wide Indefinite Strike, Says Chairman.

The Nasarawa State leadership of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) , has hinted that the union in the state is set to join the nationwide indefinite strike called by its national body.

State Chairman of PASAN, Comrade Danlami Nuhu Iliyasu, who revealed this to newsmen in Lafia Saturday said following the development, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly will be closed down beginning from Tuesday morning, the 23rd of March,2021 and all legislative activities including committee work will be stopped until further notice.

“We are joining the strike fully, right from the gate and all offices of the house will be closed down and no one will be allowed in until our demands are met or any further directive from the national body, period,” he said.

On his part, a national officer of PASAN in the state, who is the National Treasurer, Comrade Umar Yusuf Kasim said the union has already followed all the necessary steps constitutionally before calling for the strike which he said involved all the 36 states of the federation including the national assembly.

“The strike is about the financial autonomy of state assemblies and all the 36 state Houses of Assembly including the National Assembly will be shut down untill further notice,” he said.

“Accordingly, all official activities including committee meetings has been suspended.

“No chapter leadership should engage in any negotiation as all negotiation must be done centrally,” the strike statement reads in parts.
