Former Kogi CJ urges Magistrates to move with time, be above board.

Magistrates in the country have been urged to move with time and age in dispensing justice and should strive to live above board while discharging their duties.
The immediate past Kogi state Chief Judge, Justice Sunday Otu gave the charge while declaring open the 2021 Magistrates’ Association Of Nigeria (MAN), Kogi State Chapter Week in Lokoja on Tuesday.
This Year’s MAN Week wich has the theme “Magistracy In The 21st Century: Standing Still In Motion” according to the Chief Judge is targeted at appraising the past performances and the way forward for the magistrates in the electronic time and age.
The Chief Judge who was represented by Justice Alaba Ajileye stressed the need for Magistrates to jettison the stone age and embrace the modern trends in law practice.
“As Magistrates you have to move with time so that you will not be left behind. You should strive for highest standard of integrity. Let them know you as Magistrates of honour.
“Also you must be knowledgeable and verse in law and be able to utilize what is available in the internet. Must be ready to take indept legal research and be able to make decisions that are clear and cogent” Justice Otu Advised.
The Chief Judge further tasked Magistrates on the need to deliver sound judgements that will stand the test of time within the frame work of legal interpretation.
“In course of your duties you must be fair, open minded, objective and good listeners who should be able to ask questions. You should equally be in a position to acknowledge the limit of your jurisdictions” the Chief Judge Charged.
Earlier, the Chairman of Kogi Chapter of MAN, Dr. Tanko Mohammed had solicited the cooperation of members of the Bar and Bench to ensure quick dispensation of Justice in the state.

Dr. Mohammed gave an assurance that he will do all within his powers to accord priority to the welfare of his members which he said would go a long way in enhancing their productivity as Judges.
