Greg Ibe’s defection, Udensi seals the deal, Set to join YPP with 20,000 APGA members, supporters in Abia

A strong indication Friday emerged on the concluded talks between a frontline governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia state, and US-trained Security Interpol, Sir Chikwe Udensi, and the leadership of the Young Progressive Party led by the Abia chairman, Comrade Uluocha Nelcinn Chemex.

The latest development was necessitated by the recent defection of Prof Greg Ibe, 2023 governorship hopeful on the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the APGA in Abia state on Wednesday.

However, Confirmed reports on the outcome of the parley between the duo, and well-attended by the party’s national leaders and prominent Abia leaders and critical stakeholders of YPP from the state, held at the Abuja residence of the governorship hopeful, revealed that the parley ended with the sealing of terms of agreements between Udensi and the party leadership, according to reliable sources.

The reliable sources revealed that Sir Chikwe Udensi, solicited the cede of most of the YPP structure, from the ward, local government, and state-level which majority of the critical stakeholders in the party’s fold, viewed as a negation of democratic ideologies and principles on which the YPP was formed, and equally shrouded on promotion and enhancement of democratic process and deepening the current system of government in the Nigeria nation.

The sources, including a prominent chieftain of the party in Abia state, confirmed that national leaders of the Young Progressive Party, YPP, led by the National Chairman, Comrade Bishop Amakiri, informed the APGA leader that the visions, as spelled out by the party’s constitution provided its platform and enabling environment for intending members must accept to subject and commit his or herself to YPP ideologies as a political party in democratic climes, is supreme, as the leadership does not and wouldn’t condone negative tendencies that couldn’t constitute clogs in the wheel of the party and reiterated that the ideologies and principles are rooted in transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, purposefulness, dynamism, etc. At the well-attended meeting with Udensi, Amakiri, another national executive committee, and critical stakeholders of the Young Progressive Party, on the unanimous accord, resolved to meet separately, in exclusion of Chikwe Udensi.

In furtherance of the talks during the parley, Sir Chikwe Udensi, the 2023 gubernatorial aspirant on APGA platform in Abia State, told the leadership of the YPP that his planned defection to the party will be characterized by the mass defection of over 20,000 registered members of APGA, teeming supporters, followers, cut across the seventeen local government areas of Abia state, political followers, friends, and well-wishers and the majority of people of the state, to the YPP.

Udensi assured the party leadership that he has the requisite capacity, Competence, ability, vast wealth of experience in administrative and political leadership, financial strengths to galvanize all interests including a party chieftain and two of the frontline aspirants for the YPP gubernatorial ticket in the upcoming primary election, Chief James Okere Anyaogu, and Mr. Nkoro.

It was gathered that the duos of Anyaogu and Nkoro are unsettled about the planned defection of Udensi, who in their separate submission at a media interview, warned the YPP against truncating the ideologies of the party as they had learned of the exchange of hands between the Abia, national leader of the party and Udensi. They queried and regretted why the leaders of the Young Progressive Party could descend too low to thwart the party’s ideologies and would want to sell the party to the highest bidders, an action, viewed as constituting anti-party disciplinary action.

Earlier, while arising from the closed meeting between the national and state leaders and critical stakeholders of the YPP, the Abia State of YPP, the sources confirmed, Comrade Uluocha Helcinn Chimex flanked by the enlarged members of the party unanimously agreed on ceding the majority of the structures of the party across the 17 LGA of Abia State, to Udenisi, and with among other terms of agreements; for the governorship hopeful to declare at the ward, participation of over 20,000 APGA member and his teeming supporters in YPP membership registration exercise across electoral wards of Abia state, gathering of financial muscles, and galavanting the interests of the two governorship aspirants already in YPP( Anyaogu & Nkoro) to avoid distractive litigations from the party members.

The reliable sources further confirmed that during the separate closed meeting of the YPP national and state leaders, the some LG Chairmen who are influential in the party fold, and from Umuahia, North, Bende and Arochukwu, Umuahia South, Osisioma, Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South, Aba North, Ukwa East, and Ukwa West local government areas, affirmed the agreements of ceding most structures of YPP to Chikwe Udensi, in a motion moved by that of Obingwa LG party Chairman.

At a resumed meeting on the talks, the Abia party leadership chaired by Comrade Uluoma Chimex vividly informed affirmed the decision of the Young Progressive Party in Abia to ceding of its political structures across electoral wards, LGA, and state to the Arochukwu-born politician, Chikwe Udensi.

They agreed to work for the Actualization of the latter’s ambition to become governor of the state in the forthcoming general election in 2023.

While on his part, according to the sources, Chikwe Udensi assured both the national and state leadership of YPP of possessing the magic wand and political clouts that endeared Abians to him and to also wrest power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party PDP, as it alleged that the ruling party led administration in Abia had failed to address provide the basic needs of the people of the state.

It was further confirmed that Udensi promised to provide the Abia chapter with YPP vehicles and other logistics to ensure the smooth running of the party now the 2023 election approached. The governorship hopeful, as a sign of genuine commitment to the development of the Young Progressives Party and its electoral fortunes, donated 150 million for total refurbishing and expansion of the party’s Secretariat located at old timber/ Aba road Umuahia. Conclusively, Sources confirmed that national leaders of the YPP with the Abia chairman and other executives of both levels of the party entered another round of meeting to choose a date and other arrangements for a formal declaration from APGA to the YPP which according to a member of the planning committee who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press on the unfolding development.
