Kogi @ 31: State NUT Chairman Greets Governor Bello, Citizens, Teachers

As Kogi state joins its eight other counterparts created on 27 August 1991  by the then military regime of  General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) to mark her 31 anniversary of its creation, Kogi state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teacher ‘NUT’ Comrade (Elder) Joel Salifu has felicitated with Kogi state Governor, Yahaya Bello, his cabinet members, Citizens and the primary school teachers in the state.

Comrade Joel Salifu in a message of felicitation to the citizens of the state which was made available to newsmen in Lokoja, Kogi State capital said its creation far back 31 years ago is a dream come true for the inhabitants of the old Kabba province who had yearned to have a state of their own.

The state Leader of the teachers who took a clinical assessment of the leaders who were privileged to steer the ship of the state since its creation from retired colonel  Zakari Mohammed as the first military administrator and up to the present administration of Governor Yahaya Bello attested that the hope of the people was restored and rekindled despite nadir of challenges with the creation of the confluence state.

 

He acknowledged the immeasurable inroads of past and present leaders made in the establishment of durable and endurable infrastructural development projects ranging from setting up  Universities, Polytechnic and Colleges of Education, State of the art health care facilities, good road network, advancement in primary and secondary schools, construction of housing estates which spanned across the lengths and breaths of the emerging solid minerals and oil-producing rich state.

Comrade Joel Salifu who attributed the tremendous and gargantuan achievements the state and its citizens had recorded and witnessed during the period under review traced it to the peaceful co-existence of the multi-ethnic tribes that decided to cohabit peacefully.

 

The State chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers while commending the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for approving the recruitment of new teachers however appealed for the payment of the backlog of promotions arrears, leave bonuses and other entitlements.

 

He further admonished the citizens to foster Peaceful living with one another, support government policies and programmes and contribute their little quota to the socio-economic growth and development of the state.

”As we commemorate the thirty-first anniversary of the creation of our beloved Kogi state all hands must be desk to work together as one people with one destiny to help to catapult our father’s land to an eldorado of sustainable socio-economic growth and advancement’. Joel further asserted.
