A group, the Kogi Central Coalition of Political Parties, has called on the former Minister of Labour and Employment, Professor Stephen Ocheni Ikani, to in the interest of the people of Kogi state, contest and win the next Governorship election.
With the keen interest in the political activities of the state over the years, the group has been playing their roles in ensuring that quality leadership evolves at all tiers of governance.
The group which advocate politics without bitterness and championing the emergence of credible, competent and experience individuals for elective and appointive positions in the State, finally settled for Professor Stephen Ocheni Ikani as the person seen as balanced leader for the state.

Coordinator of the group in the Central Senatorial district, Mall Ibrahim Isa disclosed that the trajectory of development of Kogi state since its creation over two decades ago has been it’s major concern.
Mallam Isa said though successive leaders have so far made their modest efforts in the provision of physical infrastructure and uniting its people for the common good of the state, the group commended and profoundly acknowledged the achievements of the present New Direction Administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello in Kogi state.
The recent inauguration of several landmark projects across the state executed by his administration by President Muhammad Buhari is highly commendable.
He described Professor Stephen Ocheni Ikani as a personality whose philanthropic act knows no bound as he has used the various exalted positions he had held to change the fortunes of many that came his ways both within and outside of his immediate community.
” The Coalition is celebrating him today for his remarkable contributions and imprint he left behind both at the state and federal levels as public servant on the lives of members.
” His support, empowerment of our members and encouragement over the years is legendary. We wish to heartily commend him for being nationalistic in his ways to issues of governance and development of Kogi state. To us he remains a motivator, a beckon of hope and a great asset to our dear State.
“For all his efforts present and past in supporting us as a body, we are today conferring special service award on Professor Stephen Ikani Ocheni. This is our own way in reciprocating his consistent and unwavering support, love and solidarity to us over the years.” Isa stated
The group announced that they have the firm conviction that the excellent service award will motivate him to sustain his uncommon zeal, determination and commitment to us as a group, humanity and the society as a whole.
“At this point,we will also like to use this fora to make political
declaration, especially as the state move closer to the general elections, in particular, the Governorship election in Kogi state.
” There is the dire need to appraise that individual with the requisite knowledge, competency, capacity and experience to occupy the number one position in Kogi state. Like in advanced democracies,
leadership is solely determined by ones’ track records and impeccable character both in private and public endeavours.
” After very careful and painstaking evaluation, assessment and voices of some stakeholders in Kogi state and beyond, we the members of Coalition of Political Parties Support Groups, Kogi central Senatorial District Chapter, finds a distinguished Kogite, a University Don, an accomplished and excellent administrator, a man whom have served his state and the Federal Government without blemish, Professor (Chief) Stephen Ikani Ocheni as a personality most suitable to govern Kogi state,” the Coalition declared.
With this declaration, the Group appealed to Professor Stephen Ikani Ocheni, to present himself to contest the 2023 Governorship election in Kogi state.
” Our decision to call on Professor Stephen Ikani Ocheni to contest the coming Governorship election in Kogi state is purely anchored on the grounds that he possess all the required attributes needed to move Kogi state to the desirable level that will be the pride of all.

Professor (Chief) Stephen Ikani Ocheni has had a flourishing public service career. He rose to the apex of his civil service in Kogi state as Permanent Secretary, where he served with distinction, including Permanent Secretary, Government
House Administration under the late Prince Abubakar Audu administration.
Professor Stephen Ikani Ocheni also served in various capacities at the Federal Civil Service. He had equally served as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the first tenure of the administration of President Muhammad Buhari.
