Following the approval of the memo by Governor Yahaya Bello seeking for the establishment of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, the state Executive Council finally settled for Osara in Adavi local government area of Kogi.
Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo who disclosed this to Journalists at the end of the weekly Executive Council meeting, said the new university will be located at Osara in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State
The Commissioner noted that the Confluence University of Science and Technology will offer science and technology based courses with a view to moving the state to the desired developmental level.
He, explained that the state needed a university that will equip the youths of the state with the requisite knowledge to feed the big industries in the state especially the Ajaokuta Steel Company that will be operational very soon.
Fanwo stated that the abundant mineral resources in Kogi State were added reasons considered for the approval of the establishment of the new university to be called The Confluence University, Osara.
He explained that the bill will be transmitted to Kogi State House of Assembly by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice for speedy implementation.
With the establishment of the new University at Osara, the state now have six tertiary institutions. Kogi State University, Ayingba, College of Education, Ankpa and College of Health Science and Technology, Idah from the Eastern senatorial district. From the Western senatorial district are Kogi Polytechnic, Lokoja, College of Education Technical, Kabba, the Central senatorial district has College of Nursing ,Obangede and the new Confluence university, Osara.
Also federal tertiary institutions area spread as follows , Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Federal University, Lokoja and the Ahmadu Bello University, Kabba campus
