IDRIS AHMED, LOKOJA.
Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has successfully executed 66 projects with in 32 months of the administration of Dr Salisu Ogbo Usman.
A statement signed by the Polytechnic’s Head Public Relations and Protocol unit, Uredo Omale, said the achievement so recorded was due to non interference by government in the running of the affairs of the institution.
Oredo said the Rector has expressed gratitude to the state Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello for granting me Rector free hand to govern the Polytechnic which has led to the accelerated development both academically and infrastructurally.
The statement recorded constructions of a storey-building for Academic and Administrative purposes, a storey-building containing offices, Studios and Exhibition Halls for the School of Art, Design and Printing and another storey-building containing Classrooms, Studios and Offices for the School of Environmental Technology all sponsored by Tetfund.
According to the Polytechnic spokesperson, Tetfund also sponsored the construction of a storey-building containing Laboratory, Workshop and Offices for the School of Applied Sciences, while a 200-Seat Capacity Twin Lecture Theatre was completed and occupied
The School Management with its prudent management of resources also constructed a storey-building for the School of Sciences containing Classrooms, Offices and Laboratories at Osara and has been donated to CUSTECH for its take off.
Another Tetfund sponsored project is the storey-building for the Computer-Based Test Centre Extension, now 85% completion level, while a Model Security House as a replacement for the inherited 3-room cubicle was constructed with IGR and donations.
Under the Ogbo administration, the institution embarked on the remodeling and reconstruction of the Old Library Complex to a 30-bed Medical Centre as a replacement for a 3-bed sick bay inherited with IGR, also now completed and has since been occupied and put into use.
It was also revealed that a Complete renovation and maintenance of Lecture Theatre A & using IGR was dutifully carried out.
In a bid to control erosion on campus, drainages and pedestal walkway for traffic control around admission block on the main campus have been completed and presently in use, while landscaping and campus beautification tagged ‘Operation Clean and Green’ is ongoing also funded by IGR .
A storey-building for Workshop, Offices and Tractor Implement for the newly established School of Agricultural Technology was sponsored by the Tetfund , though just awarded is at 35% completion.
While the perimeter fencing of the female Hostel using IGR has been – Completed and in use, the Reconstruction and remodeling of the 1000 seat capacity lecture theater that was abandoned since 2012 Tetfund sponsored which is just awarded is at 45% completion.
Others are construction and furnishing of Tractors and Implements Workshop for the School of Agricultural Technology, Itakpe (Tetfund sponsored was just awarded is at 35% completion
The comprehensive renovation of the students’ hostels stalled since 2016 and the return of the students to the hostel after over five (5) years of off- campus residency via Loan facilities on the basis of PPP 80% repaid.
According to the statement Contract for the completion of fencing of the Itakpe campus against intruders and land grabbers was awarded as well as the floor overlay and complete renovation of the 500 Seat Capacity Lecture Theatre also through IGR
The Ogbo administration has also completed the renovation of the vandalised storey-building for the Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) Laboratory (IGR Sponsored
Alot of innovations have been brought to the institution,especially the establishment of the Legal Unit,
Directorates of Sports, Advancement, Support and Linkages, Directorate of SERVICOM and Directorate of Information Technology and Resource Centre .
The Entrepreneurship Development Centre has been upgraded to a full Directorate; while the Directorate of Research and Innovation and as audacious as Dr Ogbo is has zero tolerance for unethical/sharp practices such as extortion and imposition of textbooks on students, among others;
On Security and ethics, the administration frontal tackling of cultism, examination misconduct, indiscipline and other social vices;
reorganization and repositioning of the public relations and protocol Unit for effective service delivery;
The Provost. courageously ejected the Zango market operators and their menacing activities in collaboration with land grabbers from the front of the ltakpe Campus;
Ogbo in his wisdom. reviewed the schemes and conditions of Service for the staff which is still ongoing as well as. restoration of discipline and job ethics amongst staff.
A. comprehensive staff record has been updated an exercise for a clean and digital records against the manual and perennial conflicting record between the nominal and payroll was commissioned.
