Kogi Poly: Rector warns against indiscipline, cultism, exam malpractice.

The Rector of Kogi state Polytechnic, Dr Salihu Usman Ogbo, has re affirmed the commitment of the institution to train students both in character and education to enable them be worthy of certificates they will acquire.

Addressing guests and students during the 29th matriculation of the Polytechnic held recently at the matriculation ground, the Rector charged the newly admitted students to conform with the laid down rules and regulations and avoid acts capable of bringing disrepute to themselves and the entire institution.

Dr Ogbo said the vision of the institution is to build an agreeable learning environment that will enable independent, group and interdependent experiences, hence the motto of the school, ” Reliability, Self reliance and Service, assuring that the students will be unlocked and more refined in talents and creativity after graduation.

Though the Polytechnic has provided adequate opportunity for attainment of academic excellence, creativity and self reliance, students were also warned that there will be zero tolerance for all forms of social and academic vices like cultism, gun running, examination malpractices, drug abuse and divisive tendencies.

The school also promised not to tolerate cybercrime, incitement, violence, gangsterism, misuse and wilful destruction of property, stealing and indecent dressing among other anti social behaviours.

To ensure strict compliance of the laws, the Rector advised the students both fresh and old to obtain, read and digest the students ‘information handbook that will be distributed through their respective departments as ignorance of the law will not be condoned in the school.

” Cultism and examination malpractice are completely forbidden on our campus. All the security architecture of the Polytechnic placed in so many places has both visible and invisible preventive mechanism to deal with cultists and examination fraudsters, their sympathisers and sponsors.

” Students are advised to stay safe and free from cult related lifestyles, examination misconducts and other social vices. Students are also advised to report any move intended to intimidate or lure them into cultism from any quarters to the security unit. Students are further advised to dress modestly and in accordance with acceptable standard”. The Rector maintained.

He disclosed further that as part of the aggressive measures to rid the institution of misfits like cultists, examination fraudsters and entry documents scammers,150 students have been expelled in line with the laid down rules and regulations of the school.

Dr Ogbo also announced that with the full support of the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the institution has embarked on aggressive expansion of the hitherto grossly inadequate infrastructural facilities inherited 15 months ago.

Among such successfully completed projects are the comprehensive students hostel abandoned since 2016, provision of a 30 bed medical centre, model security house, equipped library with relevant text books, 200 seat capacity lecture theatre among other necessities of the students and the entire academic community.

The Rector therefore congratulated the 6,385 students that secured admission in the academic programmes of the institution 1,873 of them are for the High National Diploma.
