Local Governments In Nasarawa Enjoy Full Financial Autonomy. —–Akala, Karu LGC Chairman

Chairman, Karu Local Government Council, of Nasarawa state, has commended the state Governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule for full financial autonomy enjoyed by all the local government councils in the state.

This was disclosed In a paper he presented titled ‘ Pros and Con’s of local government administration in Nasarawa state, at the first Democracy Round Table of the National Democracy Stakeholders Group, held at the Ibrahim Abacha Youth Centre Lafia,

Hon. Akala said the ineffectiveness of government at the third tier has been attributed to poor constitutional provisions, citing lack of appropriate legal framework that allows local government to thrive.

He said the new National Financial Intelligent Unit (NFIU) directive has changed the narrative as the improved funding has enabled the local government councils drive home policies and programmes with direct bearing on the lives of the people, which he said has brought development to the grassroots government where every citizen of this country resides and the impact of government should be felt positively.

The Chairman who said inconsistency in the leadership has kept the local government councils backward and underdeveloped, adding that the recruitment process into leadership position at local government council levels has been faulty as it favors selection and preference by a few political actors instead of election on the ground of capacity as enshrined in the constitution that allows for only elected officials that lead our local government councils.

The occasion which climaxed with the presentation of awards for outstanding service, saw top government functionaries, distinguished personalities from within and outside the state, including stakeholder Youths.

Akala, who double as special guest of honour expressed his joy at the award said it is award for hardworking which, according to him, could get better and better.

He was accompanied by his aides, cabinet members, legislative arm and NULGE of Karu LG chapter.

In same vein, a former APC Guber aspirant in the State due for 2019 elections, Alhaji Muhammed Musa Maikaya also attended the occasion.
